HOW TO DISASSEMBLE A SAMSUNG TABLET

Sometimes there are such problems with the equipment that it is impossible to do without disassembling it. Most often, such a procedure is carried out in order to clean the device from the inside or replace a faulty battery with a working one.

First, make sure you're really ready to take apart your tablet yourself. For a beginner, this process is quite delicate and complicated. If you are not confident in your own abilities to subsequently assemble all the parts in the same sequence, then it is better to contact Samsung tablet repair professionals.

Before you start disassembling the tablet, make sure you have a screwdriver and a thin plastic object like a plastic card on hand. That's all you need for disassembly. If you intend to remove the front panel with the sensor itself, then you will additionally need a hair dryer. So let's get started.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISASSEMBLING A SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB TABLET

  • We hook the panel latches with the help of the plastic object mentioned above. We do this gradually and carefully around the entire perimeter of the tablet.
  • Under this panel are several screws that need to be unscrewed with a screwdriver.
  • Disconnect the battery from the board and remove it.
  • Carefully, using a plastic card or other thin object, unfasten the camera cable connector.
  • Similarly, we disconnect all cables of the display, volume buttons and others from the main board.
  • We take out the board itself, carefully releasing it from the grooves at the bottom of the tablet, or unscrewing the screws, depending on the model.
  • To disconnect the headphone jack, unscrew the two screws and disconnect the cable.
  • To remove the front panel with a touchscreen, heating with a hot air gun is necessary.

Ready! Your tablet is completely disassembled and you can easily clean its parts from dust and dirt. It should be noted that it is Samsung tablets that are relatively easy to disassemble compared to other tablets, even the Apple brand.

You can easily carry out this procedure at home. You don't need a lot of tools or time to do this. Most importantly, be extremely careful not to damage the internal parts of the tablet, because repairing them can cost you a very tidy sum.

This article is not a guide to action! You are solely responsible for the collection and disassembly of your device.
Many manufacturers do not carry warranty obligations if the device has been disassembled by the user. If you do not want to lose the warranty for your device, check the warranty terms in the documentation or with the device manufacturer.

TOOLS USED

Let's take a look inside Samsung's 7-inch Android tablet together! Many thanks to the Engadget portal and editor Richard Lai personally for providing an unearthly device.

It's time to start disassembly!

So, in the hands of iFixit specialists, the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

It has long been rumored that this tablet will be the "iPad killer". Let's see if they are justified.

Specifications:

  • ARM Cortex-A8 Hummingbird 1 GHz multimedia processor based on ARMv7 architecture
  • 16GB or 32G built-in memory + external expandable microSD memory
  • RAM 512 MB
  • 3.2 MP rear camera and 1.3 MP front camera.
  • Operating system Android 2.2 (Froyo) + proprietary software shell Samsung TouchWiz

When devices actually consist of a single touch screen, coming up with an original design is quite difficult. However, Samsung succeeded: the white back panel stands out against the background of the front panel a la iPad.

At the bottom of the bezel are the standard Android touch controls found on most touchscreen phones.

A 3.2-megapixel main camera with LED flash is a bit small for a device of this caliber, as even much smaller devices like the Droid 2 now have 5-megapixel cameras.

Galaxy Tab interfaces: headphone jack, SIM card slot, microSD card slot (supports up to 32 GB) and USB docking station.

Let's put the Galaxy Tab and iPad tablets side by side for comparison.
Galaxy Tab is much smaller than its rival in size: 190.1 x 120.6 x 12.0 mm. iPad Dimensions: 242.8 x 189.7 x 13.4 mm.
In units of volume, the Galaxy Tab is 275.1 cm3, while the iPad is 617.2 cm3.

Enough to devour the tablet with your eyes. Let's look for screws on it.
We pry off the plastic trim on both sides of the Apple-style dock and find 2 three-bladed Tri-wing screws under it.

Three-bladed screws are not the strongest barrier to opening the tablet by craftsmen. We've got a 26-bit screwdriver set (including Tri-wing) to keep the tablet going.

How strongly does the docking station resemble Apple devices? Here are the USB cables for a visual comparison.

Using plastic tools for opening cases and guitar picks, we pry the front panel around the perimeter and unfasten it from the plastic back of the case.

Luckily, the Galaxy Tab doesn't have any self-destructing copper clips, unlike the iPad.

After unfastening all the plastic latches, you can remove the back of the Galaxy Tab case.

From the inside of the back of the case, we see a heavy plate of electromagnetic shield located above the processor and memory chips on the motherboard.

The plastic construction on the back of the case certainly contributes to good wireless reception. The use of plastic allowed Samsung to bypass Apple iPad's creative methods of improving signal transmission.

Almost half of the Galaxy Tab's usable area is occupied by the battery.
The battery is attached to the rear panel with a single Phillips-head screw.

To disconnect the battery, you need to pull its connector out of the socket on the motherboard.

The 3.7V GalaxyT ab lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 14.8Wh or 4000mAh.
According to Samsung, the battery provides enough power for 7 hours of movie viewing.
7 hours is not enough to watch your favorite film trilogy. But the iPad would easily provide such an opportunity.

The Galaxy Tab's battery weighs 81 grams and is about 55% of the weight and 60% of the capacity of the iPad's giant battery.

As you can see in the picture, the Galaxy Tab battery is about 2 times smaller than the iPad battery.

Using a plastic tool, unfasten the cable connector of the main camera.

Goodbye main camera...

To remove the motherboard, you must first disconnect a few cables:

  • headphone/microphone flex cable (circled in red)
  • volume control cable (circled in orange)
  • touch screen cable (circled in yellow)
  • LED backlight cable for control buttons (circled in turquoise)
  • display data cable (circled in blue)

The motherboard is secured to the back panel with 7 cross-head screws.

To remove the motherboard, you need to unpin it from the back panel.

The front camera is easily detached from the motherboard.

Let's take off those scary electromagnetic shields and take a look at the electronic circuits of the Galaxy Tab.

On the front side of the motherboard are (according to the UBM TechInsights portal):

  • SanDisk SDIN4C2 16 GB MLC NAND Flash (circled in red)
  • Maxim 8998 power management IC (circled in orange)
  • Samsung S5PC110A01 + Samsung KB100D100YM (1 GHz Hummingbird multimedia processor + 8 GB MLC Flex OneNAND, 1 GB OneDRAM and 3 GB DDR for mobile devices) (circled in yellow)
  • Modem Infineon PM9801 (X-GOLD 616 HSDPA/HSUPA/EDGE) (circled in turquoise)
  • Wolfson Microelectronics WM8994 audio codec (circled in blue)
  • Infineon PMB5703 RF transceiver (circled in pink)

On the back of the motherboard are:

  • Broadcom BCM4329 (Bluetooth/FM/WLAN) receiver (circled in red)
  • Gyroscope STMicroelectronics L3G4200D (circled in orange)
  • ATMEL MXT224 touch screen controller (circled in yellow)
  • Broadcom BCM4751 GPS receiver (circled in turquoise)
  • The 2 speakers near the dock form the Galaxy Tab audio system (circled in blue)

So what makes the Samsung Galaxy Tab a real competitor to the iPad? The answer lies in the processor.
The Galaxy Tab has a Samsung S5PC110A01 multimedia processor.
Like the iPad's A4 processor, the 1GHz Hummingbird processor is built on the ARM architecture in a package-on-body design to improve speed and efficiency of internal processes.

The headphone/microphone jack module is secured to the rear panel with a single Phillips screw.

You need to slightly pry it off to peel it off and remove it from the Galaxy Tab case.

Fortunately, the headphone jack is not attached to the motherboard. So it's easy to replace if damaged if you accidentally drop your tablet with headphones connected.

Apple had similar ideas for the iPad.

Slightly pry the display data cable, unfasten the self-locking connector, and disconnect the cable from the front panel module.

Unfortunately, warming up is required to remove the bezel.
Warming up the panel with a hot air gun and carefully prying, we separate it from the case.

The touchscreen manufactured by Atmel is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass front panel.

Apparently, Galaxy Tab can also be used as body armor.

The Galaxy Tab features a Super TFT LCD display that provides improved image quality and viewing angles compared to a conventional LCD screen.

While the Galaxy Tab's screen resolution (1024x600) is lower than the iPad's (1024x768), it has a higher pixel density (169 ppi for the Galaxy Tab versus 132 for the iPad).

169 pixels per inch is good, but clearly not enough for us. We prefer the iPhone 4's Retina display at 326ppi.

Ease of repairing the Samsung Galaxy Tab: 6 out of 10 (10 points mean the easiest).

  • All components can be reached without using a soldering iron.
  • The battery is user replaceable.
  • Tri-wing screws are designed to scare novice repairmen away, but they are easy to deal with with a good set of screwdriver bits like iFixit's.
  • A hot air gun is required to remove the LCD display.
  • Opening the Galaxy Tab is a tough task; plastic tools alone are not enough

Disassembly completed!
