Canon Eos 7D Bent Cf Pin Fix Card Reader Replacement

Canon EOS 7D Bent CF Pin Fix Card Reader Replacement

Step 1: Remove the Outer Screws

To begin the repair, you’ll need to remove the three screws on the left side of the camera, looking from the back. To access these screws, you’ll need to remove the front rubber pieces. Use a plastic opener to gently pry the rubber off, starting from the edge. Once the rubber is removed, you’ll be able to see the top two screws. Remove these screws, then open the port covers to access the bottom screw. Remove this screw as well.

Step 2: Remove the Eyepiece and Top Screws

Next, you’ll need to remove the eyepiece by squeezing the sides and pulling it up. Once it’s removed, you’ll be able to see the four screws behind it. Remove these screws in any order. Be careful not to strip the screws or damage the surrounding plastic.

Step 3: Remove the Thumb Grip Rubber and Final Screw

Peel back the thumb grip rubber starting from the top, just enough to reveal the final screw. Remove this screw, then carefully lift the back of the camera off. Do not pull up hard, as there is still a cable attached. Instead, use a plastic opener to slide along the bottom and open up until you can see the flex cable securing the back.

Step 4: Disconnect the Flex Cables

Use a plastic opener to pry the bottom connector out of its socket. Once disconnected, lift up the back of the camera and set it aside. You’ll need to remove the two screws securing the logic board shield. Lift off the shield, revealing the dual Digic 4 processors. Disconnect the flex cables, making sure to swab the contacts with a degreaser like Isopropyl alcohol to prevent corrosion.

Step 5: Remove the Card Reader

Remove the first two screws securing the card reader, then the bottom screw. Push the card reader in from the outside slot until it’s loose, then lift it out vertically. Remove the old card reader and replace it with a new one. Make sure to secure it properly with the screws.
