Galaxy S20 – Screen replacement

Duration: 90 min.
Steps: 27 Steps

So, you’ve dropped your smartphone and now the screen is cracked. Bummer, right? But don’t worry, with the right guidance, you can totally fix it! We’re here to help you replace the broken display on your SAMSUNG GALAXY S20 all by yourself. To get started, you’ll need to tackle that stubborn glass back cover, which is glued on pretty tight. Remember, all the important bits—like the battery, main board, and speaker—are nestled in the display unit, so you’ll be removing them to pop in the new screen. We suggest swapping out the display along with the frame for a smoother repair experience. Plus, if your device frame has seen better days with some dents and scratches, this is the perfect time to freshen it up! If you hit any snags or have questions along the way, feel free to reach out for support. We're here to help you out! Good luck with your repair, and enjoy your good-as-new SAMSUNG GALAXY S20!

Step 1

- First things first, let's power down that device! It's the best way to keep those pesky short circuits at bay while you work your magic.

Step 2

- Warm up the device's frame with some hot air until it hits a cozy 60-80 degrees. This makes peeling off the back cover's adhesive a breeze!

- Grab a suction cup and stick it on the bottom of your device.

- Give that suction cup a gentle pull and slide your flat opening tool into the gap you've created.

Step 3

- Unscrew the Phillips screws of the same length from the charging coil. Let's get those screws out and keep moving forward!

Step 4

- Time to give that battery a little break! Grab your trusty plastic spudger and gently disconnect the battery.

Tools Used
  1. Pry Tool

Step 5

- Start by giving those Phillips screws a little twist to loosen them up and free the speaker from its cozy spot.

- Once you’ve done that, gently lift the speaker out and say goodbye to it for now!

Step 6

- Gently loosen and detach those flex cables lounging over the battery.

- With a careful touch, use the spudger to separate the connectors and lift out the two upper cables.

- Next up, disconnect the display cable from the motherboard with a steady hand.

Step 7

- The battery is really stuck on there! Give it another go with the hot air to help loosen that glue up a bit more.

Step 8

- Unscrew the four screws holding down the main board cover. You've got this!

- Grab a spudger and gently lift the cover off. Easy peasy!

Step 9

- Unplug all the connectors from the motherboard, but be gentle—let's keep those components safe and sound!

- Carefully apply some leverage and give those contacts a little nudge to the side.

- It's time to free the SIM holder! Grab a SIM tool or a trusty paper clip to pop it out.

- Loosen those screws that are holding the board and cameras in place. We're almost there!

- With a gentle touch, pry one side and lift out the main board using both hands. Just make sure no cables or connectors decide to tag along!

Step 10

- Time to get those screws loose! Grab your trusty screwdriver and loosen the three screws.

- Now, take a spudger and gently lift the board upwards just a bit, then carefully slide it out of the frame. You've got this!

Step 11

- The vibration motor is stuck on there with some glue. Give it a little warmth with hot air to help it loosen up.

- Once it's nice and cozy, gently pry the motor out using a flat tool.

- Just a heads up: steer clear of the golden contacts while prying, as they can be a bit delicate and easily bent.

Step 12

- Grab a flat tool and gently slide it under the glued earpiece to free it up. You've got this!

Step 13

- Gently ease the delicate cable away with a steel spatula.

- Carefully lift the sensor out from its snug little home.

Step 14

- First things first, take a moment to compare your shiny new display with the old one. If you notice any gaskets or covers that need to be swapped over, now's the time to do it! And hey, if you’ve got an original Samsung spare part, you're in luck because it comes with all the necessary components already installed.

- Next up, gently peel off the protective foils covering those important openings like the camera and sensors. We want them ready to shine!

Step 15

- Gently place the sensor back into its cozy spot in the device and give it a little press down. It's like tucking it in for a good night's sleep!

Step 16

- Pop that earpiece right into its cozy spot!

Step 17

- Carefully place the vibration motor back into its cozy spot and give it a gentle press to secure it in place.

Step 18

- Gently slide the USB board into place at the bottom of the device, making sure it's snug in the frame.

- Secure everything in place by tightening those Phillips screws.

Step 19

- Gently bend those flex cables to the side just a tad, then slide the main board into its cozy spot in the device.

- Start at the top and guide that board down until it snuggles in just right.

- Watch out for those cables—no pinching allowed under the board!

- If the motherboard sits nice and flat, you're all set to screw it in place.

- Time to pop that SIM holder back in! If it's feeling a bit stubborn, don't force it—just double-check that the main board is sitting pretty.

- Finally, connect all those little connectors and you're golden!

Step 20

- Tilt the top cover a bit and then gently press it down until it clicks into place.

- Once it’s snug and secure on all sides, go ahead and fasten it down!

Step 21

- Take a moment to check out the adhesive leftovers on the bottom side of the battery. We want to ensure that the adhesive is nice and smooth—wrinkles can cause the battery to pop up, and we definitely don’t want that! If your new display comes with adhesive surfaces for the battery, be sure to give your battery a clean slate by removing all the old adhesive.

- Next up, gently place the battery back into the device. Make sure it has a bit of breathing room on all sides and isn’t crammed against the frame. We want it to fit snugly but comfortably!

Step 22

- Time to give those flex cables some love! Gently place them back where they belong, right above the battery.

- Make sure the side marked 'MAIN' is facing up, just like it should be inside the unit.

- Now, connect those connectors to the main board and the USB board. You're doing great!

Step 23

- Pop that speaker in, give it a little press to lock it down, and secure it with a screw. Don’t forget to ensure it’s snugly hooked in at the bottom!

Step 24

- Carefully align the battery connector with its cozy spot on the mainboard and give it a gentle press down to secure it in place.

Step 25

- Put on the metal cover with the charging coil.

- Hook it in at the top and fasten all screws.

Step 26

- Power up your Galaxy S20 and give it a quick once-over before you button it up!

- Turn it on and fire up the phone app – let's get this party started!

- Time for some secret agent stuff: type in *#0*# and watch a test menu magically appear!

- Now for the fun part! This test menu lets you check for things like a wonky display, a touchscreen that needs a hug, and other fun stuff like the camera, speaker, and that cute little LED light.

- If everything looks good, you can finally lock that phone and give yourself a pat on the back! If you need help, you can always schedule a repair

Step 27

- Before you pop that back cover on, take a moment to check out the glue situation. It should be spread out evenly along the edge of the cover. If you see any glue party crashers, feel free to clean up the excess!

- And hey, if you're feeling adventurous, why not ditch the old glue and give your device a fresh start with some new adhesive?
