Galaxy S9 – Removing the mainboard

Duration: 45 min.
Steps: 19 Steps

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to take out your Galaxy S9's motherboard all by yourself! If your device has had a little too much fun in the water, removing the PCB is essential for a good clean-up. Let’s get started!

Step 1

- Turn off your device by holding down the power button until the “Power off” option appears.

- Use your finger to confirm that you want to shut down your device and wait until the screen goes blank.

Step 2

- Warm up the area where you're starting, then stick a suction cup onto the bottom edge of the back cover. You're almost there!

- Wedge a flat tool between the back cover and the frame, then give that suction cup a gentle tug. You've got this!

Step 3

- Once you've popped off the back cover, gently lift it away and use your trusty spudger to disconnect the fingerprint sensor. Easy peasy!

- Now that you've freed the back cover, just set it aside and get ready for the next step!

Tools Used
  1. Pry Tool

Step 4

- The logic board cover, complete with the NFC tag, is secured at the top.

- Gently pry it up a bit and then lift it out.

Step 5

- Great news! The battery connector is now free and clear.

- Before we dive deeper into this repair adventure, let's disconnect the battery to keep things safe and sound. We wouldn't want any short circuits crashing our party!

Step 6

- Gently nudge that speaker up with your tweezers, then pop it right out!

Step 7

- First up, let's gently disconnect the front camera connector with your trusty spudger.

- Carefully pry it up from the side that’s free of any PCB components.

- Now, go ahead and lift the camera out of its cozy little holder.

Step 8

- Time to ditch that SIM tray!

- Grab a SIM tool (or a paperclip – yep, really!)

- Give that tray a gentle tug and pop it out. Easy peasy!

Step 9

- First things first, gently unplug those various connectors from the logic board. You've got this!

- Now, take your spudger and give it a little twist. Remember, it's not a crowbar, so go easy to keep that logic board safe and sound.

- Watch out for those tiny components next to the connectors—they're delicate and can break easily, so handle them with care!

- Next up, disconnect the button plugs for those antenna cables. You're doing great!

- When grabbing the cable, use your tweezers to hold it, but steer clear of the plug itself. Precision is key!

- Finally, give that plug a gentle twist with your tweezers to disconnect it. You're almost there!

Step 10

- First things first, let's get that single screw off the logic board. You've got this!

- Before you dive into removing the logic board, just make sure all those connectors are out of the way and not getting tangled up.

- Now, the bottom side of the logic board is still hanging out with the USB board. Gently lift the logic board and use a spudger to pop off the connector. Easy peasy!

- Once that's done, just set the logic board aside and give yourself a pat on the back!

Step 11

- Grab that logic board and plug in the connector at the bottom—easy peasy!

- Gently fold the logic board into the device like you're tucking it in for a cozy night.

- Watch out for those cables—let's keep them comfy and not squished!

- Bend all antennas and connectors to the side, giving them a little room to breathe.

- Press the logic board down until you hear that satisfying click—it's like a high-five!

- Now, secure the logic board with that lone screw. You've got this!

Step 12

- Grab those antenna plugs with your trusty tweezers and give them a little click to lock them in place.

- Next up, let's connect the display and volume button connectors—just a simple snap and you're good to go!

- Remember, all connectors should click into place. If they’re being stubborn, just pop them out and give it another shot!

Step 13

- Now insert the SIM tray.

Step 14

- Pop in the front camera and snugly connect its cable. You've got this!

Step 15

- Now, gently place the speaker back over the USB board, give it a little press to secure it, and tighten those screws like a pro.

- Don't forget to check that it's snugly latched in at the bottom!

Step 16

- Plug in the battery connector and get ready to power up!

Step 17

- Next up, let's attach that midframe along with the NFC tag. Make sure it’s snug as a bug!

- Give it a gentle press all around to lock it in place. You got this!

- Finally, it’s time to fasten all those screws again. You’re almost there!

Step 18

- Before you snap that back cover on, don't forget to reconnect the fingerprint sensor. It's a little detail that makes a big difference!

- Now, position the back cover just right over your device. Give it a gentle lift so you can reach the connector, keeping that back glass nice and steady—think of it as a balancing act!

- If you need a helping hand, grab a plastic tool like a spudger to reach that connector and press it down. You can also use longer tools like ESD tweezers or an ESD spudger. Just take your time and keep your hands steady—precision is key!

Step 19

- Before you pop that back cover back on, take a peek at the glue! Make sure it's spread out nicely on the cover. If there's any glue hanging around, just wipe it away.

- Next up, give that back cover a good press.

- Time to heat things up again! Warm the back cover to help the glue stick like it means it.

- While the glue is cooling, feel free to give the back cover a gentle press with your fingers. It's all about that bond!
