How To Fix Hp Officejet Printer
This is a multi-part repair tutorial – you can find all parts here. If you’re having issues with your HP Officejet printer, we’ve got you covered. In this tutorial, we’ll guide you step-by-step on how to take it apart and fix any potential problems.
Opening the printer
Let’s get started. First, we need to open up the printer. Disconnect the power cord and flip it over to access the bottom. You’ll see the paper tray; slide it back and remove it completely.
Next, let’s remove the duplexer. It’s the component that allows you to print on both sides of the paper. Gently pull it out from the back of the printer.
With the paper tray and duplexer out of the way, we can remove the print head. This step is optional, but it’s recommended to reduce the chance of ink leakage while we work on the printer.
Locate the print head latch and press on it to release the print head. Carefully lift it out of the printer and set it aside.
Removing the control panel and display
Now, let’s tackle the control panel and display.
Gently lift up the control panel and reach underneath it. Feel for the curved support brackets and pull firmly downward to detach the control panel from the display. Be careful not to use excessive force as you don’t want to break anything.
Next, let’s focus on the display. Lift it further up and reach behind the brown plastic cover. Pull it forward to release the display from the printer.
Carefully rest the printer on its rear panel so you can access the cable connecting the display. Locate the brown clamp and lift it up, then pull out the cable to disconnect it.
Now, let’s remove the two screws beneath the display using a T-10 Torx screwdriver. This will help us detach the display for further disassembly.
Here’s an important tip: even though the display is detached, it’s still attached to the scanner assembly. If you need to separate them, you can do so once the scanner assembly is removed.
Moving on to the back of the printer, let’s remove the two screws on the right-hand side (left-hand when viewed from the front). Then, open the door on the front of the computer and remove the single screw on the lower left-hand side.
Now, let’s carefully use a spudger tool to lever the lower rear side of the panel firmly outwards. With your other hand, push the panel backwards. It will slide half a centimeter backwards and come free.
Here’s where you can contribute your expertise! We would appreciate it if you could take an image of the rear of the printer and add it to this guide. We’ll mark the locations of various screws to make it easier for everyone.
Disconnecting the scanner assembly and cables
Let’s focus on the scanner assembly and cables.
Disconnect the scanner flatflex, sheet feeder, and LED cables marked in red. Also, remove the earth strap marked in yellow. You don’t need to disconnect any other cables at this time.
Once the cables are disconnected, let’s remove the remaining screws around the top of the printer to free the scanner assembly.
Carefully lift the scanner assembly away from the printer. If you need to detach the display, lay the scanner assembly upside down, lower the display assembly, push it to the right, and adjust its angle until it drops away from the scanner. Reconnect the flat-flex cable and clip the support back into the rear to hold it in place. Remember, the printer will operate normally without the scanner.
Next, let’s remove the output tray. Depress the two clips at the rear of the output tray and pull the tray forward. Rest the printer on its rear panel, depress the two clips under the tray, and slide the white support clear of the tray. Finally, pull the output tray clear.
Removing the front panel
Now, let’s tackle the front panel.
Remove the single silver screw pictured. Then, remove the two screws from the rear left-hand side (right hand when viewed from the front). Release the one clip on the inside front of the panel and the two clips on the underside of the printer. Pull outwards on the front to release a hidden clip.
Rotate the panel outwards until the clips on the rear of the panel detach. If you encounter any resistance, you can try removing the screws securing the back panel first.
Let’s remove the remaining screws on the rear of the printer and release the two clips on the underside of the printer. Once that’s done, you can detach the rear panel.
Now, for a bit of a challenge! Let’s unclip the power button cover from the bottom using multiple tools and considerable force. Concentrate on the points marked with arrows, as this is where the clips are located. Using a plastic spudger to force them in at these points should release the cover.
Release trims in the left-hand quarter panel. There are clips on the side, underneath, and two from the top. Once the trims are released, detach the NFC connector from the circuit board by locating its socket (marked in red) and pulling the cable free from its restraints.
Bend the flexible flap attached to the front door upwards, then pull the studs free from the guides. Pull the three hinges out of their clamps and remove the front door.
Finally, remove the power button, door sensor, and USB cables from the circuit board. Slide back the catch on the Ctrl Panel socket and remove the flat-flex. Many repairs may not require this panel to be fully removed, so you can leave these cables attached if you’re careful not to damage them.
Let’s finish up by removing the 2 screws on the front left and the one on the front right. Release the clips in the paper output area and the two clips on the underside of the printer. You can now pull the front panel free.
