How to Replace an Unhooked Zipper Fastener – DIY Guide

How to Repair an Unhooked Zipper

Are you tired of dealing with a stubborn zipper that just won’t budge? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to repair an unhooked zipper in just a few easy steps.

Step 1: Check the Opening of the Slider

First things first, you need to check the opening of the slider to see if it’s too wide. If it is, it won’t latch onto the chains properly, and that’s when the problems start. To fix this, simply use a pair of pliers to lightly tighten the slider on each side.

Step 2: Make a Small Cut

Next, you’ll need to make a small cut of about 3 millimeters at the bottom of the chain that’s not connected to the slider. This will give you a bit of room to work with. Place the scissors horizontally and make the cut carefully.

Step 3: Pull the Slider Up

Now, gently pull the slider up through the opening to see if the zipper is working. If it’s still not working, don’t worry, we’ve got a few more tricks up our sleeve.

Step 4: Set Up the Needle and Thread

To set up the needle and thread, take about 70 centimeters of thread and pull it halfway through the hole at the bottom of the needle. Make sure both sides of the thread are equal lengths and bring them together.

Step 5: Tie the Loose End

Tie the loose end of the thread into an overhand knot. This is where you make a loop and pull the thread through it. Make sure to do this at least 2-3 times so it doesn’t come undone during the sewing process.

Step 6: Weave the Thread

Starting at the opposite side of the cut, weave the thread under and over the zipper. While staying in one spot, weave and tug at the thread to close the hole.

Step 7: Finish Sewing

When the hole looks covered completely, loop the thread and sew the needle through it to finish sewing. Cut off excess thread and check if the zipper is working.
