iPhone 6s – Replacing the battery
Duration: 30 min.
Steps: 15 Steps
In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to swap out that pesky battery in your iPhone 6s all by yourself. If your phone is crashing during those intense gaming sessions, refusing to charge, or just has a battery life that leaves much to be desired, this repair is just what you need! Let's get your iPhone back to its lively self with this straightforward guide.
Step 1
- First things first, let’s power down that iPhone of yours to keep it safe during this little adventure. Just press the standby button for about three seconds until you see the slider pop up on the screen.
- Now, give that slider a good swipe from left to right. Your iPhone will take about 10 seconds to power down completely. Easy peasy!
Step 2
- To get into that iPhone 6s, grab yourself a pentalobe screwdriver. It's your golden ticket!
- Next up, let's tackle those two pentalobe screws flanking the lightning connector. We suggest placing those little screws on a magnetic pad, just like they were chilling in your phone before. Remember, they’re .2 x 3.8 mm pentalobe screws, so keep them cozy!
Step 3
If you find it tricky, give those outer edges of the display a little heat love a few times!
- Place your iPhone 6s on a soft, clean surface to keep that back safe from scratches.
- Grab a suction cup to lift the front panel, along with a hard plastic plectrum and a hot-air gun. If your screen is looking a bit worse for wear, don’t forget to cover it completely with adhesive tape before moving on!
- The screen is a little sticky to the frame. Warm up the outer edges of the display using the hot-air gun to about 60°C (140°F).
- Position the suction cup over the home button or nearby. While you gently pull up the screen with the suction cup, slide the hard plastic plectrum between the aluminum frame and the display frame. You might need to press down on the aluminum frame and push up the display with the plectrum a few times to get it going.
- Once you can lift the screen a few millimeters, carefully slide along the outer edges until the display is loosened on both sides. If needed, give those outer edges a little more heat a few times.

Step 4
- First, let's tackle those Phillips screws and the plug cover that are keeping the battery plug in place. Once you’ve got them out, toss those little guys onto a magnetic pad. It’s like a cozy home for screws! You’ll find them in no time later. Just so you know, you’ll be dealing with 1 x 2.2 mm Phillips screw and 1 x 2.9 mm Phillips screw.
- Next up, gently coax that battery plug out by sliding an ESD spudger underneath. If you’re feeling adventurous and don’t have a spudger, your trusty fingernail can do the trick too. Just be careful!
Step 5
- To kick things off, loosen the four Phillips screws on that shiny silver contact cover. Once you've got those screws out, toss them along with the cover onto your magnetic pad. It's like a cozy little home for screws, making them easy to find later!
- Now, let's get those three overlapping display connectors released in the order shown below. Grab your trusty spudger, slide it under each connector, and lift gently. You've got this! The connectors to release are: Front camera/sensor/earpiece/ambient microphone, Touch ID cable, and the Display.
Step 6
- First up, grab your trusty Phillips screwdriver and unscrew those two little screws holding the taptic engine in place. They're the 2 x 1.5 mm Phillips screws, so keep an eye on them!
- Now that you've got those screws out, it's time to gently lift out the taptic engine. You're doing great!
Step 7
- The battery is snugly held in place by two adhesive strips. To free those strips, grab a pair of tweezers or a spatula and get ready to gently work your magic.
- Take your time and peel those adhesive strips away from under the battery. Keep them as flat as possible while you pull to avoid any tearing mishaps.
- Once the adhesive strips are free, the battery will pop right out. You've got this!
Step 8
- First up, peel off that blue protective film from your shiny new adhesive strips.
- Next, press the sticky side of the adhesive firmly against the back of the battery. Make sure those tabs are sticking out just right!
- Now, take off the little blue films from the black tabs and attach them to the edge of the battery.
- Finally, remove the last protective film and you're all set!
Step 9
- Now, let's pop that battery back into your iPhone and reconnect the connector. You're almost there!
Step 10
- Time to bring that taptic engine back home! Just pop it back into its cozy spot like it never left.
- And don't forget to secure it with those trusty screws. Remember, they're the 2 x 1.5 mm Phillips screws, so make sure they’re snug!
Step 11
If those display connectors are feeling a bit shy and aren’t snugly in place, you might see some funky stripes or parts of the touchscreen might decide to take a break! Let's make sure everything's connected just right!
- First, let's connect those display connectors! It might take a few tries, so don't stress if it feels a bit tricky. Just be gentle and avoid bending them. The connectors you'll be working with are: Front camera/sensor/earpiece/ambient microphone, Touch ID cable, and the Display.
- Once those connectors are snug and secure, power up your iPhone! Check that everything's working smoothly—the LCD, touchscreen, proximity sensor, front camera, and earpiece. If the connectors aren't fitted just right, you might see some funky stripes or parts of the touchscreen might just decide to take a little break!
- Now, it's time to put the connector cover back on and screw it in tight. You'll need 3 x 1.3 mm Phillips screws and 1 x 2.9 mm Phillips screw for this part. You're doing great!
Step 12
- Let's get that battery connector hooked up! It's like giving your phone a little hug.
- Now, place the shiny silver cover plate back on and secure it with those screws. You're using 1 x 2.9 mm Phillips screw and 1 x 2.2 mm Phillips screw to keep everything snug and cozy!
Step 13
- Gently fold down that display like you're tucking in a cozy blanket. Just make sure the upper edge with the cables clicks in snugly. Now, with a bit of finesse, press down the display towards the home button, gliding it along the edge until it fits perfectly in its frame. You've got this!
Step 14
- Now, let’s snug up those two pentalobe screws at the bottom of the enclosure. They’re the 2 x 3.8 mm pentalobe screws, so make sure they’re nice and tight!
Step 15
Once you pop that battery out, your iPhone might just decide to throw a little time party and reset to 1:00 a.m. on 1/1/1970. Make sure to set the time, or you might find it a bit tricky to connect to the cellular network!
- Let’s get that iPhone in sync! Connect it to iTunes or hop onto a WLAN network and give it a moment to set the time. It’s like a little coffee break for your phone!
- Next up, gently pop out the SIM tray with the SIM card and then slide it back in. Easy as pie!
- Now, let’s play a little game of on and off! Turn on flight mode, then turn it off again. This little dance can help reset things!
