iPhone 7 Plus – Removing the mainboard
Duration: 60 min.
Steps: 24 Steps
Ready to tackle that logic board removal on your iPhone 7? In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to do it yourself! Whether it's for a little post-water damage cleanup or just to see what's under the hood, we’ve got your back. Let's get that logic board out and make your iPhone shine again!
Step 1
- First things first, let’s power down your iPhone completely to keep it safe during the repair. Press the Sleep/Wake button for about three seconds until you see the slider that says 'power off'.
- Give that slider a swipe from left to right. Your iPhone will now take about ten seconds to shut down completely. Easy peasy!
Step 2
2 × 3,3 mm Pentalobe
- Grab your trusty pentalobe screwdriver (PL1) to crack open that iPhone 7 Plus!
- Time to say goodbye to those two pentalobe screws at the bottom of the enclosure. They’re hanging out on either side of the Lightning connector. Make sure to keep them cozy in the same spot on your magnetic pad!
Step 3
If you find yourself in a sticky situation, don't sweat it! Just warm up the outer edges of that display a couple of times. Remember, the flex cables are hanging out on the side with the Sleep/Wake button, so be gentle! And don't forget, the display is also snugly fit at the edge of the earpiece.
- To prevent any scratches on the back of your iPhone 7, make sure to place it on a soft, clean surface.
- You'll need a suction cup, a hard plastic pick, and a heat gun to lift the front screen. If the screen is really cracked, cover it with some packing tape first.
- The screen is glued to the frame, so let's warm it up! Use your heat gun to heat the edges of the display to about 60°C.
- Now, attach the suction cup near the Home button (if you can). While you gently lift the screen with the suction cup, slide the hard plastic pick between the aluminum frame and the display, pushing down on the frame. Since the display is glued, you'll need to carefully slide the pick all around the iPhone. Just a heads up: don’t go too deep on the side with the Sleep/Wake button, as you might damage the display's flex cables.
- Next, use the pick to push the display towards the Lightning connector to free the tabs from the aluminum frame.
- Rest the display on the aluminum frame to avoid overstretching those delicate flex cables.
Step 4
1 × 2,4 mm Y-Type
3 × 1,1 mm Y-Type
Battery Connector
Before you dive into the repair, make sure to disconnect the battery contact. This little step helps prevent any short circuits and keeps your device from accidentally powering up while you're working your magic.
- Let's get those three Y-Type screws out of there! Grab your Y-Type screwdriver (Y000) and remove them like a pro. Once you're done, gently lift off the bracket plate and make sure to keep all the little parts cozy in the same box on your magnetic pad.
- Now, it's time to delicately pry off the battery connector. Just slide a spudger underneath it with care. If you don’t have a spudger handy, your fingernail can do the trick too!
Step 5
Display Connector
Home Button Connector
- Grab your trusty spudger and gently wiggle it to disconnect those display and Home button cables. You've got this!
Step 6
1 × 1,3 mm Y-Type
2 × 1,0 mm Y-Type
Facetime Connector
- Time to get those three Y-Type screws out! Grab your trusty Y-Type screwdriver (Y000) and remove them like a champ. Once you're done, gently lift off the cover and keep all those little parts cozy in the same box on your magnetic pad.
- Now, with a spudger in hand, carefully disconnect the FaceTime connector from the circuit board. You’re doing great!
- And just like that, you can take off the display completely. Keep up the awesome work!
Step 7
1 × 2.0 mm Standoff
1 × 1.4 mm Phillips
Just a heads up, the standoff screw is a little shy and doesn't have any magnetic powers. No worries, though—just keep an eye on it while you work!
- Let's get those two screws from the camera bracket out of the way and remove it.
- Carefully disconnect the camera connectors by slipping the spudger underneath them and gently prying them off.
- Now, use that trusty spudger to pop the camera unit out of its holder and take it out.
Step 8
1 × 1.1 mm Phillips
- Start by removing the Phillips screw that’s nestled sideways into the back cover. It's a bit shy, but you got this!
- Next, gently disconnect the connector from the board. Just a little wiggle and it should come right off.
- The antenna is like a sticky friend, lightly glued in place. Give it a little love with some hot air to help it detach, or use a steel spatula to carefully slide under the cable and disconnect it.
- Now, it's time to take out that antenna! You're on a roll!
Step 9
3 × 1.1 mm Phillips
1 × 1.0 mm Phillips
One of the screws decided to take a little detour and is snugly fitted into the back cover sideways. No biggie, just keep an eye on it as you proceed!
- First, let's tackle those Phillips screws holding the antenna bracket in place. Make sure to keep them all together in your cozy little box!
- Now, go ahead and gently remove that bracket. You're doing great!
Step 10
2 × 1.1 mm Phillips
- Underneath the antenna bracket, you'll find two sneaky Phillips screws holding a connection piece in place. Go ahead and take those screws out!
- Now it's time to gently lift out that connection piece. You've got this!

- First, let's tackle those two screws holding the bracket plate above the connector at the top of the logic board. They won't know what hit them!
- Now, gently use your spudger to disconnect the connector. Be careful, we want to keep things friendly here!
- Next up, disconnect the broad connector on the side of the logic board and the two tiny antenna cable plugs. You're doing great!
Step 12
2 × 1.8 mm Standoff
4 × 2.0 mm Standoff
1 × 1.1 mm Phillips
Right next to those two little holes for the iSight camera, you'll spot a friendly plastic holder for a screw, just chilling on top of the logic board!
- First, let’s pop that SIM card tray out and give it a little breather.
- Next up, grab your screwdriver and unscrew all those little screws keeping the logic board cozy in its spot. You can use a fancy special screwdriver or a regular, thin slotted one—whatever floats your boat!
- Now, it’s time to gently lift that logic board out with your hands. If it’s feeling a bit stubborn, don’t hesitate to use a spudger to help it along.
Step 13
2 × 1.8 mm Standoff
4 × 2.0 mm Standoff
1 × 1.1 mm Phillips
- Pop that logic board back into its cozy spot! Just make sure the camera bracket is sitting pretty on top of it.
- Secure that logic board like a champ with those screws!
- Don't forget to slide the SIM card tray back in place!
Step 14
2 × 1,1 mm Phillips
- Gently connect those antenna cable plugs, making sure they sit snugly over their sockets before giving them a little press.
- Next up, plug those two connectors into the logic board. You're almost there!
- Now, secure the bracket plate with the Phillips screws. You're doing an awesome job!
Step 15
2 × 1.1 mm Phillips
- Secure that little connection piece with the Phillips screws, and you're golden!
Step 16
3 × 1.1 mm Phillips
1 × 1.0 mm Phillips
- Pop that antenna cover back in and give it a little press to secure it.
- Now, grab your Phillips screwdriver and fasten those screws in. Don't overlook the sideways screw; it's just as important!
Step 17
1 × 1,1 mm Phillips
- Pop that Wi-Fi antenna back into its original home!
- Next up, secure it with that Phillips screw—let's keep things snug!
- Now, it's time to connect the connector—you're almost there!
- Finally, give a gentle press on the flex cable so the glue can do its thing. You've got this!
Step 18
1 × 2.0 mm Standoff
1 × 1.4 mm Phillips
- Slide that camera unit back into its cozy holder and give it a gentle press to secure it in place.
- Now, let's connect those two camera connectors—make sure they’re snug!
- Finally, reattach the camera bracket plate and screw it in tight. You’re doing great!
Step 19
Using a fresh frame sticker is great, but just a heads up—your iPhone's water resistance might not be as good as it once was!
Hey there! Just a friendly reminder to pay attention to how you place that frame sticker. The corners are unique and will guide you in the right direction!
- To ensure that your new frame sticker sticks like a champ, make sure to wipe away any leftover glue and dirt from the old one.
- Peel off the first backing film.
- Carefully align it on one side and give it a gentle press.
- Now, take off the second piece of film.
Step 20
Facetime Connector
2 × 1,0 mm Y-Type
1 × 1,3 mm Y-Type
- Stand that display upright on the frame and connect the FaceTime connector to the logic board like a pro!
- Gently rest the display on the right-hand edge of the frame, just like that!
- Now, pop the bracket plate of the FaceTime connector back into the iPhone and secure it with those three Phillips screws. You've got this!
Step 21
Display Connector
Home Button Connector
- Connect the cables for the Home button and display to the logic board with care. You're on your way to a successful repair!
Step 22
Battery Connector

- Now, let’s place that bracket plate back into the iPhone and secure it with those four Y-type screws. Tighten them up and you’re all set!
Step 23
Uh-oh! Your phone's water protection has taken a little vacation. To bring it back, you’ll need to reglue that display. Let’s get to it!
- Start by attaching the display to the right-hand edge of the frame, then gently fold it onto your iPhone.
- Next, give that display a little slide towards the standby button so the tabs can snugly engage.
- Finally, press down on the display all around the frame to lock it in place. You've got this!
Step 24
2 × 3,3 mm Pentalobe
- Screw in those two pentalobe screws on either side of the Lightning connector to secure the case. You've got this!
