How to Replace iPhone 8 Plus Speaker: Step-by-Step Guide
Duration: 60 min.
Steps: 15 Steps
Welcome to your DIY adventure! In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to swap out that pesky speaker on your iPhone 8 Plus. If your tunes are sounding more like whispers or your ringtone is playing hide and seek, it’s time for a speaker replacement. Let’s get your phone back to belting out those beats and ringing loud and clear!
Step 1
– First things first, let’s power down your iPhone to keep it safe during this repair journey. Just press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for about three seconds until you see that charming ‘power off’ slider pop up.
– Give that slider a friendly swipe from left to right. Your iPhone will take a little moment to completely shut down, which should be around ten seconds. Hang tight!
Step 2
2 × 3,4mm Pentalob
– Unscrew those two pentalobe screws at the bottom of your device—one’s on the left, the other’s on the right of the Lightning connector. Keep them safe on your magnetic pad so they don’t wander off!
Step 3
If necessary, heat the outer edges of the display a few times. Don’t forget that the flex cables for the display are on the side of the Sleep/Wake button. After being opened, the iPhone 8 loses its warranty for protection against dust and spray water (IP 67 rating).
– Set your iPhone 8 Plus down on a soft, clean surface to keep that shiny back from getting scratched up.
– To pop off the front panel, grab a suction cup, a hard plastic pick, and a heat gun. If your screen looks like it’s been through a battle, throw some packing tape over the cracks before you dive in.
– The screen is glued to the frame, so let’s warm things up! Use that heat gun to heat the outer edges of the display to around 60°C (140°F).
– Place the suction cup over the Home button (or as close as you can get). While you gently pull up with the suction cup, slide the hard plastic pick between the aluminum frame and the display frame, pressing down on the aluminum frame. Since the display is glued, you’ll need to run that pick all the way around the iPhone. Just a tip: don’t poke too far near the Sleep/Wake button, or you might accidentally damage those delicate flex cables.
– Now, leverage the pick to pop the display tabs out of the aluminum frame. You can now gently fold the display to the side.
– Support the display against something stable so you don’t accidentally bend those sensitive flex cables.
Step 4
2 × 1,2 mm Phillips
1 × 1,4 mm Phillips
1 × 2,6 mm Phillips
Before you dive into this repair, make sure to disconnect the battery contact! This little step is crucial to keep short circuits at bay and to prevent your device from unexpectedly turning on while you’re working your magic.
– Grab your trusty Phillips screwdriver (Ph00) and unscrew those Phillips screws. Once they’re out, gently lift off the cover. Make sure to keep all the parts cozy in one spot on your magnetic pad!
– Next up, carefully lift off the battery contact. Just slide a plastic spudger in gently below the connector and give it a little nudge.

Step 6
1 × 1,1 mm Y-Type
1 × 0,9 mm Y-Type
– Grab your trusty Y-Type screwdriver (Y000) and unscrew those two Y-Type screws. Once they’re out, gently lift off the cover. Keep all your parts cozy in one spot on your magnetic pad!
– Now, using a spudger, carefully disconnect the FaceTime contact from the PCB. You’ve got this!
– And just like that, you can now take off the display completely. Easy peasy!
Step 7
1 × 1,1 mm Y-Type-Schraube
1 × 3,3 mm Phillips-Schraube
1 × 2,5 mm Phillips-Schraube
2 × 1,2 mm Phillips-Schraube
1 × 2,3 mm Phillips-Schraube
Antenna Connector
– First, let’s tackle that Y-type screw and the two Phillips screws holding the silver antenna cover in place. Unscrew them and gently lift off the cover like it’s a secret treasure!
– Next up, with your trusty spudger in hand, carefully disconnect the coaxial antenna flex cable. Treat it gently, and it will thank you later!
– Now it’s time to remove those Phillips screws that are keeping the speaker secure. Remember, these screws come in different lengths, so keep them organized to avoid a mix-up when it’s time to reinstall the speaker.
– With a little finesse, use your plastic spudger to lift off the contact from the PCB. Just slide it in gently below the connector and give it a little nudge.
– Finally, you can remove the speaker and the antenna flex cable. You’ve got this!
Step 8
In the pictures, you’ll spot the iPhone 8, but don’t worry—this process is a breeze for the iPhone 8 Plus too!
– Give it a little heat to make removal a breeze!
– Grab a steel spatula or some tweezers to gently unstick that antenna.
– Attach the antenna right back where it belongs on the new speaker.
Step 9
2 × 1,2 mm Phillips-Schraube
1 × 2,3 mm Phillips-Schraube
Antenna Connectors
1 × 1,1 mm Y-Type-Schraube
1 × 3,3 mm Phillips-Schraube
1 × 2,5 mm Phillips-Schraube
– Pop that speaker back into its cozy spot and give it a gentle push towards the lower edge of the iPhone.
– Double-check that the antenna flex cable is snugly nestled between the battery and the speaker.
– Now it’s time to secure that speaker with the Phillips screws—let’s get it locked in!
– Carefully place the coaxial antenna connector over its socket and press down slowly to make the connection.
– Finally, reinsert the silver plate and secure it with the Y-type screw and the two Phillips screws. You’re almost there!
Step 10
Your iPhone will be snug as a bug with a frame sticker, giving it a solid defense against dust and light splashes. Just a heads up though, it won’t be diving into the deep end—it’s not 100% waterproof!
Make sure you stick that frame sticker on just right! Each corner is uniquely shaped, so use that to guide you as you position it perfectly.
– To ensure that your new frame sticker sticks like a champ, let’s start by getting rid of any leftover glue and dirt.
– Peel off the first layer of protective film from the frame sticker.
– Carefully align the frame sticker on one edge and gently press it down as you go. Make sure it’s nice and even!
– Finally, remove the rest of the film layers. You’re all set!
Step 11
Facetime connector
1 × 1,1 mm Y-Type
1 × 0,9 mm Y-Type
– Gently set the display onto the frame and connect the FaceTime contact to the logic board like a pro.
– Slide the FaceTime contact’s cover back into the iPhone and secure it with those three Phillips screws—you’re doing great!
Step 12
Display Connector
Home Button Connector
– Connect the two contacts from the Home button and the display to the logic board. It’s like giving your phone a little handshake to get things back in action!
Step 13
Battery Connector
2 × 1,2 mm Phillips
1 × 1,3 mm Phillips
1 × 2,6 mm Phillips
– Reconnect that battery contact like a pro!
– Slide the metal cover back onto your iPhone and secure it with those screws. You’ve got this!
Step 14
For a solid bond, feel free to get creative! You can use some plastic clamps or even sandwich your device between two books. It’s like giving your glue a cozy hug!
Step 15
2 × 3,4mm Pentalobe
– Let’s get those two pentalobe screws back in place! Secure them on either side of the Lightning connector and make sure they’re snug in the enclosure. You’re doing great!
