Steps: 31 Steps
In this guide, we're excited to help you tackle the task of swapping out your Taptic Engine, bringing back the vibrational magic to your iPhone 8! Wishing you all the best on this DIY adventure! We can't wait to hear what you think of our guide!
Step 1
- Let's get your iPhone powered down completely to keep it safe from any sneaky short circuits! Just press that standby button for about three seconds until you see the 'Turn off' slider pop up on your screen.
- Now, give that slider a swipe from left to right and hang tight until your iPhone shuts down all the way. You're doing great!
Step 2
- Loosen the two Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning Connector and safely stash them away in your screw storage. You've got this!
2 × 3.4mm Pentalobe
To keep your screws and parts safe during this repair adventure, we suggest using a screw storage solution. If you have an old sewing box lying around, that could work perfectly! Here at Salvation Repair, we love using a high-quality magnetic mat that keeps everything organized just like it was in your phone. This way, you’ll know exactly where each screw belongs, making reassembly a breeze!

Step 3
When it comes to heating up your device, think of it like warming up a cozy cup of cocoa! You want it just hot enough to feel nice, but not so hot that it burns your fingers. Keep it comfy, and you'll be golden!
- To kick things off, gently set your iPhone 8 on a soft, clean surface. This way, you can avoid any pesky scratches while you lift the display.
- Next up, grab a hot air tool—whether it's a heat gun or a trusty hairdryer—and give the outside of the display a nice, even warm-up. Let's get that display ready to come off!

Step 4
Cracking open your iPhone 8 means waving goodbye to that sweet warranty for dust and splash protection, as well as the waterproof guarantee. So, proceed with caution and let's keep it fun!
- Stick a suction cup right above the Home button on the display and give it a gentle pull upwards. This will create a tiny gap between the aluminum and display frames—just enough to get things rolling!
- Now, grab a flat plastic tool and slide it into that little gap you just made. Give it a little push to widen the gap by nudging the aluminum frame upwards. Flat plastic picks work wonders for this job!

Step 5
While you're opening the display, remember to keep it under 180°! Going beyond that could lead to those delicate flex cables getting a bit too stretched. Let's keep everything intact and running smoothly!
- With a gentle nudge, push the display upwards using the plectrum to free those little lugs from the aluminum frame. You're doing awesome!
- Now, swing that display open towards the standby button. Lean it against something sturdy so those flexible cables don’t get stretched out. Keep it cool!

Step 6
2 × 2.6 mm Phillips
2 × 1.0 mm Phillips
Before you dive into this repair adventure, let's make sure to disconnect that battery connector! This will help keep pesky short circuits at bay and prevent your device from unexpectedly turning on while you're working your magic. Safety first, right?
- Grab your trusty Phillips screwdriver and let’s unscrew those four Phillips screws! Once they’re out, gently wiggle off the cover with your tweezers. Easy peasy!
- Now, let’s get that battery connector disconnected! Just use a plastic spudger to carefully pry it off. You've got this!

Wrong position
Right position
Hey there, superstar! Just a friendly reminder to ensure that the silver chip on the cable is in the exact same spot as before (check out the photo!). If it’s not, you might notice some funky discolorations and spots on the screen right where it shouldn’t be after installation. If you catch this little hiccup, just double-check the cable position and align that chip to match our photo perfectly. You're doing awesome!
