iPhone X – Removing the logicboard

Duration: 90 min.
Steps: 19 Steps

So, your iPhone X just had a little swim? No worries! It’s a good idea to give that logicboard a nice clean to prevent any sneaky corrosion from crashing the party. Our repair instructions will guide you through the process step by step. Good luck with the logicboard removal! If you find our guide helpful, we’d love for you to give it a thumbs up! Remember, a clean logicboard is a happy logicboard!

Step 1

- Before diving into the repair fun, make sure to power down your iPhone X to keep it safe and sound. Just press and hold the standby button along with one of the volume buttons for about three seconds, and you're golden!

- When you see the 'Power Off' slider pop up on your screen, swipe it from left to right. Your iPhone will take a little nap and shut down completely in about 10 seconds. Easy peasy!

Step 2

- Unscrew those two pentalobe screws hanging out on either side of the Lightning connector and toss them into your trusty screw storage box. They’ll be safe and sound there!

Step 3

- Gently set your iPhone X on a soft, clean surface—let's keep that back looking sharp while we lift the display!

- Now, grab your hot air tool—be it a trusty hairdryer or a hot air gun—and glide it along the glued edge of the display. Let's warm things up just right!

Tools Used
  1. Heat gun

Step 4

- Stick that suction cup right on the bottom edge of your device and give it a gentle tug upwards—this will create a nice little gap between the stainless steel and display frame.

- Now, grab a sturdy, flat tool and slide it into that gap to widen it up a bit. While you're at it, give the display a little nudge upwards with the tool, using those flat plastic picks to help out.

Step 5

- Gently nudge that display upwards from the aluminum frame with your trusty hard plastic plectrum. You got this!

- Once the display is free, gently fold it over towards the standby button. It's like giving it a little hug!

- Now, lean it against something stable so it stands tall and proud while you work your magic.

Tools Used
  1. Pick Set

Step 6

- Grab your trusty Y-type screwdriver and unscrew those Y-type screws to lift off the cover plate. Easy does it!

- Now, gently slide that battery connector out of its snug spot using a flat plastic tool—like a spudger. You're doing great!

Step 7

- Grab your spudger and gently wiggle those connectors free from the Logicboard, one by one. Just a heads up, the earpiece flex cable at the top of the display might be feeling a bit clingy due to some glue.

- Once you've disconnected all the connectors, you can wave goodbye to the display and remove it completely. You're doing awesome!

Step 8

Step 9

- First, let's loosen those two Phillips screws holding the iSight camera bracket plate in place. Easy does it!

- Next, gently lift the little eyelet at the top edge of the rear case that’s keeping the bracket plate secure. You've got this!

- Now, grab your trusty spudger and carefully separate the two connectors of the iSight camera from the logicboard. Nice and steady!

- Finally, with a delicate touch, use the spudger to pry the camera out of its cozy spot and set it aside. You're doing great!

Step 10

- Grab your trusty SIM tool or a paperclip and slide it into the little opening right next to the SIM card tray. Give it a gentle push and watch that tray pop right out!

Tools Used
  1. SIM Tool

Step 11

- Grab your trusty spudger and gently disconnect all those connectors from the logicboard. We're talking about the Lightning connector, flash light, FaceTime camera, and volume buttons—let's make sure they're all set free!

- Oh, and keep an eye out for a connector hiding under the flex cable of the FaceTime camera. Just bend that cable a bit to the side, and you'll be able to detach it with ease. You're doing great!

Step 12

- Give those loose flex cables a little nudge to the side before you slide the logicboard back into the back cover. We want to keep everything cozy and avoid any jam-ups!

- Pop that small metal cover back where it belongs and secure it with a screw or two.

- Fasten the logicboard down with the remaining screws—let's keep it snug!

- Now it's time to reconnect all those connectors. You're almost there!

Step 13

- Gently slide that SIM card tray back into its cozy spot in the back cover frame. It should glide in smoothly—just like a well-rehearsed dance move!

Step 14

- Gently slide the iSight camera back into its designated spot in the enclosure and give it a gentle squeeze to secure it.

- Connect the two camera connectors together—let's make sure they’re best buds!

- Position the metal cover next to the iSight camera so it's standing tall on the rear case.

- Fold it over carefully, ensuring the screw holes are perfectly aligned.

Step 15

- To make sure that your shiny new adhesive frame fits like a glove, start by giving the stainless steel and display frames a good scrub to get rid of any leftover adhesive residue. No sticky situations here!

- Once you've got a clean slate, align that adhesive frame just right and peel off the protective film from the bottom—let's get sticking!

Step 16

- To keep those delicate flex cables from getting all stretched out when you're hooking up the display, just rest the display on the side of your iPhone X's frame and lean it against something sturdy. You've got this!

- Now, gently connect the three display connectors by pressing them until you hear that satisfying click! It's like a little victory dance for your device.

Step 17

- Reconnect that battery connector like a pro!

- Next, grab the bracket plate and secure it back in place with those Y-Type screws. You're almost there!

Step 18

- With a gentle grip, lift that display and give it a friendly fold over. You're doing great!

- Now, give it a little press down along the frame, one step at a time. You've got this!

Step 19

- Time to tighten things up! Grab your trusty Pentalobe screwdriver and fasten those two pentalobe screws snugly on either side of the Lightning connector. You're on the home stretch!
