DIY Tutorial: MacBook Pro 13 Fan Replacement Guide
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 6 Steps
Swapping out a faulty fan will help your laptop chill out and run smoothly!
Step 1
– Time to get your hands a little dirty! Start by unscrewing those 10 screws that are holding the lower case of your MacBook Pro 13″ Unibody in place. You’ve got this!
Step 2
– Gently lift the lower case a tad and scoot it toward the back of the computer to unhook those sneaky mounting tabs.
Step 3
Just a heads-up before you dive in—let’s disconnect the battery connector from the logic board to keep any sneaky electric shocks at bay.
– Gently slide the flat end of your trusty spudger under the battery connector and give it a little lift to pop it out of its cozy spot on the logic board. You’ve got this!

Step 4
– Grab your spudger and gently coax the fan connector to pop out of its cozy spot and lift it right off the logic board.
Check out the fan socket and connector in the second and third photos. Use your spudger to gently lift the fan connector straight up from its socket, but watch out—don’t snap the plastic fan socket on the logic board! Although the layout of the logic board in the second photo might look a bit different from yours, the fan socket remains the same.
