Sony PlayStation 4 Repair Guide: Step-by-Step Fix Tutorial
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 10 Steps
This repair is pretty straightforward, and you should be able to tackle it without any hiccups. Just a friendly reminder: you’re diving into this guide at your own risk. Salvation Repair can’t take responsibility for any mishaps that might happen along the way. If you find yourself in a jam, feel free to schedule a repair!
Step 1
– Step away from the PS4 and unplug every single cable. Give it some breathing room!
– Slide off the hard drive cover like a pro. It’s easier than it looks!
Step 2
– Start by carefully removing those two Torx T8 security screws from the top cover. You’re doing great!
– Next up, if there’s a warranty sticker hanging around, go ahead and peel that off. Then, grab your Torx T8 security screwdriver and take out the black screw holding down the top case. You’re almost there!
Step 3
– Give a gentle tug upwards on the front right edge of the top cover.
– Once the right front edge is free, move on over and lift up the left front.
– Slide the top cover back, and voilà, set it aside for now!
Step 4
– Grab your trusty Phillips PH1 screwdriver and carefully unscrew the two little APU/heat sink clamp screws. Steady hands, you’ve got this!
Step 5
– First up, pop in 2 washers under each screw.
– Next, get that clamp in place and tighten those screws.
Step 6
– First, plug that power cord into your PS4 – let’s get this repair started!
– Next, carefully touch the copper pad on your PS4 to power it on. Fingers crossed it’s an easy fix!
– If your PS4 powers on and stays on, you’re all set! If not, don’t worry, we’ve got more steps to help you troubleshoot the issue. Just move on to the next step.
Step 7
– If your PS4 is still giving you trouble after adding two washers, don’t sweat it! Simply remove the heat sink clamp and toss a third washer under each screw. That should do the trick!
Step 8
– Once you’ve got that third washer in place and the screws are snug, go ahead and give the power pad on the motherboard a little tap.
– If your PS4 is as quiet as a library and the lights are off, it might mean those screws are a smidge too tight. Just ease them back a tiny bit (about an 1/8 turn) and give it another shot. Keep doing this until your console comes to life!
– If your console still decides to play hard to get and turns off after these steps, it looks like this approach isn’t the right fit for your PS4.
Step 9
– If your PS4 is being stubborn and won’t turn on (or turns on and then immediately goes off) even after you’ve had it working before, try taking the cover back off and adjust those screws on the plate. If they’re too tight, the PS4 won’t cooperate. Slightly loosen them until the system powers up. Be super careful if the console is plugged in. Not ideal, but it’s possible. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 10
– To put your device back together, just retrace these steps in reverse—easy as pie!
– Not feeling it? No worries, you can always schedule a repair and we’ll take care of it for you.
– Way to go for tackling this repair—nice work!
Success!
