Remove HP Officejet Scanner Assembly

Introducing the HP Officejet scanner assembly removal guide! If your printer is experiencing issues with scanning, this step-by-step guide will help you troubleshoot and resolve the problem by replacing the scanner assembly.

Step 1: Prep the Printer

  1. Remove the printer from any additional paper tray.
  2. Removing paper tray Pull out the paper tray from the front and the duplexer from the rear.
  3. Consider removing the print head to minimize ink leakage.

Step 2: Detach the Control Panel

  1. Detaching control panel Hold the control panel with one hand and reach underneath it with the other.
  2. Pull firmly downward on the curved support to detach it from the display.
  3. Lifting display Lift the display further up and reach behind the brown plastic cover.
  4. Pull it forward to release the cover.
  5. Rest the machine on its rear panel to access the cable.
  6. Lift up the brown clamp and pull out the cable.
  7. Removing screws Using a T-10 Torx screwdriver, undo the two screws beneath the display (pictured).
  8. The display remains attached to the scanner assembly for now. If you need to detach it for further repairs, you can do so once the scanner assembly is removed.

Step 3: Access the Scanner Assembly

  1. On the back of the printer, remove the two screws on the right-hand side (left-hand when viewed from the front).
  2. Open the door on the front of the computer and remove the one screw on the lower left-hand side.
  3. Using a spudger lever firmly outwards on the lower rear side of the panel.
  4. With your other hand, push the panel backward. It will slide half a centimeter backward and come free.
  5. Disconnect the scanner flat flex, sheet feeder, and LED cables (marked in red).
  6. Remove the earth strap (marked in yellow).
  7. No other cables need to be removed at this time.
  8. Remove the remaining screws around the top of the printer.
  9. Lift the scanner assembly away from the printer.

Step 4: Detach the Display

  1. If you need to detach the display, lay the scanner assembly upside down.
  2. Lower the display assembly, push it to the right, and then adjust the angle of the display until it drops away from the scanner.
  3. Reconnect it to the flat-flex cable and clip the support back into the rear to hold it.
  4. The printer will operate normally without the scanner.
