Samsung Expands Self-Repair Kits for Galaxy S22 Series

As the Right to Repair movement continues to gain momentum, smartphone manufacturers are increasingly feeling the pressure to provide better options for consumers who wish to repair their own devices. Samsung has taken significant steps in this direction, becoming one of the first Android manufacturers to offer self-repair solutions. Initially, the company provided repair kits for its Galaxy S21 and S20 series, as well as the Tab S7+. Now, Samsung is broadening its self-repair program to include the more recent Galaxy S22 lineup, which includes the S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra. Starting today, users of these models can purchase repair kits directly from Samsung. These kits are designed for common issues such as broken screens, malfunctioning charging ports, and damaged back glass. The screen repair kits come with a new display, midframe, and battery, priced at $160 for the S22, $183 for the S22+, and $233 for the S22 Ultra. Additionally, charging ports and rear glass replacements are available for a flat fee of $60, regardless of the model or color. For an extra $7, customers can also receive a complete set of tools necessary for the repair, courtesy of Samsung's partner, iFixIt. Each repair kit is accompanied by a detailed tutorial from iFixIt, now branded as an official “OEM Guide,” ensuring that users have access to certified instructions from Samsung. This initiative not only empowers users to take control of their device repairs but also reflects Samsung's commitment to the Right to Repair community. In addition to smartphone repair kits, Samsung is also extending its DIY repair solutions to its flagship laptops, specifically the Galaxy Book Pro 15" and Galaxy Book Pro 360 15". These kits can include essential components such as batteries, front and rear cases, displays, touchpads, fingerprint readers, and even rubber feet for the laptops. This expansion of the self-repair program is a significant advancement, especially considering the recent lack of updates in this area. With the upcoming announcement of the Galaxy S23 series, it is hoped that Samsung will continue to prioritize the availability of repair parts for its latest devices, particularly given the anticipated enhancements in display and camera technology.
