Xbox Series X Black Screen Troubleshooting Guide

Before troubleshooting, ensure your TV or monitor is powered on and working correctly. If you have a smart TV, ensure you have installed the newest software.

The TV or Monitor is Off or Doesn’t Work

Ensure the TV or monitor you are using is powered on and working correctly. If you have a smart TV, ensure you have installed the newest software.

If you have tried different TVs and HDMI cords and ports, the Xbox console is likely the source of the problem.

Faulty HDMI Connection

If your TV or monitor turns on and displays other devices, it is possible the HDMI cord that connects the Xbox Series X to the TV is damaged or improperly connected. The HDMI port the console is plugged into might be broken.

Note: Ensure your HDMI input on your TV or Monitor is set up to use version 2.0 or 2.1. The HDMI that comes with the Xbox Series X is HDMI 2.1 compliant. HDMI 2.1 allows the Xbox Series X to support higher frame rates than the Xbox One.

Console Had Glitch While Powering Up

If you’ve tried different TVs and HDMI cords and ports, the Xbox console is likely the source of the problem. If your Xbox turns on, but your TV or monitor is black or not showing the Xbox user interface, force shut down the console.

If performing a force shutdown did not fix the issue, complete a power cycle.
