Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 4 Steps

Ready to breathe new life into your HP laptop (or any laptop running Windows 3.1 to Windows 10)? This guide will walk you through the steps to install Chromium OS. Whether you’re upgrading or just curious, we’ve got your back every step of the way. If things get tricky, no worries—you can always schedule a repair.

Step 1

– We’re diving into the fun part—downloading CloudReady Neverware onto a USB Stick! Head over to CloudReady’s official website at https://www.neverware.com/freedownload. This will snag you the home edition. If you’re looking to speed things up, feel free to use the CloudReady USB Installer!

– Just a heads-up, this handy utility will take about 20 minutes to get the media ready. You can use a USB Flash Drive or an SD Card—check out the next step for more info on using SD Cards.

Step 2

– Ready to hit up your BIOS/UEFI? Here’s how you can jump in: crack open your computer or laptop’s manual if you need brand-specific steps.

– Otherwise, let’s break it down with some quick tips to enter the BIOS menu.

– On a Dell, tap F12 as soon as you spot the Dell logo.

– On HP devices, F9’s your friend when the HP logo pops up.

– Lenovo? Tap F12 when you see their logo.

– Once you’re in the BIOS Setup Utility, look for an Advanced tab. Head there and find Boot Order—or anything close to boot devices or boot order.

– Change things up so your USB stick or SD card (if your device supports it) is sitting at the top of the boot list.

– Heads up: not every BIOS/UEFI lets you boot from an SD card.

Step 3

– Once you’re up and running on Chromium OS, it’s time to install! Just head to the bottom-right corner and click ‘Install CloudReady.’ You’ll get to pick between a standalone install or a dual-boot setup.

– Keep in mind, not every computer is dual-boot friendly, and opting for the standalone install will WIPE YOUR HARD DRIVE(S) COMPLETELY. So, don’t forget to BACK UP YOUR DATA. (If you’re not sure how to back up, I can guide you through it).

– The installation itself will take just over 20 minutes. So, why not kick back, sip your coffee, and watch a few YouTube videos while it does its thing?

Step 4

– You did it! If your device still isn’t quite right, you can always schedule a repair with us.

Success!
