Texas Instruments TI-30 XS Multiview Teardown

Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 6 Steps

Step 1

– Grab your 00 Philips screwdriver and unscrew the six screws holding the back panel in place. Once those are out, gently pry open the calculator from the rear panel.

Step 2

– Gently lift out the LCD, making sure those delicate ribbon cables stay safe and tangle-free.

Step 3

– Grab your pliers and gently remove the solar panel. If you’re feeling adventurous, now is a good time to take out the battery by unscrewing the ground plate.

– Once the battery (a CR2032 Lithium 3 Volt coin battery, rechargeable) is out, don’t worry—the calculator will still work just fine as long as it gets some light on that solar panel.

Step 4

– Gently pry off the plastic covering the buttons on the PCB. Grab some needle-nose pliers and give the buttons a little pinch until they’re weak enough to pop off.

– Once the cover’s off, the buttons will fall right out. These are the open switches that short when pressed, just like the reset button on your calculator.

– The device should now work with the battery touching the plate and display ‘memory cleared’.

Step 5

– To make sure everything’s good to go, check that the boards are connected, the rubber dome switch is snugly sitting on the button PCB, and the solar panel’s got enough juice (around 0.1 V to get things rolling).

– Now, take a look at your disassembled calculator. You’ll see the hard plastic face plates, dome buttons, PCBs, solar panel, and battery all laid out like a neat little tech puzzle.

– Other battery components are also visible and easy to spot now.

Step 6

– Pop each button back into its spot—no need to stress, they’re pretty chill about where they belong.

– Put the rubber dome buttons, PCBs, solar panel, battery, and face plates back where you found them. The little plastic melts you broke earlier? Totally unnecessary, so no worries there.

– Your calculator should work just as well as it did before its big adventure. If things get weird, you can always schedule a repair.

Success!
