Lenovo N500 Fan Replacement
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 4 Steps
Step 1
Whoa, easy does it! Stop turning those screws once they’re loose to avoid damaging them or the chassis. You’re doing great, keep it up!
Pop out the battery to steer clear of any accidental zaps or unnecessary system hiccups.
– Spot the big black panel with the round vent on it. You’ll see two Phillips head screws hanging out there. Grab your screwdriver and give them a good twist until you hear that satisfying clicking sound. Don’t worry, the screws are designed to stay put in the cover.
– Now, to pop that panel off, grab the tab between the screws and pull up. You can use a flathead screwdriver or even your trusty fingernail to lift it. Be ready for a bit of pushback from those pesky plastic snap tabs holding it in place. Gently work around the corners on either side of the front, prying carefully until the panel breaks free. When it does, lift it off nice and easy.
Step 2
– First things first, let’s tackle that fan! Start by unscrewing the three screws that are keeping it snug in its spot. Once those are out, don’t forget to disconnect the fan before you lift it out. You’ve got this!
Step 3
Handle the heat sink assembly with care! Too much pressure could squish that heatpipe and nobody wants that. Take it easy and keep everything groovy!
– Give those heatsink fins a spa day and clear out the dust. A quick blast with a can of compressed air should do the trick!
– Check out the second image to see the dust that was hanging out in the heatsink.
Step 4
– Put the laptop back together by retracing these steps in reverse. You’ve got this!
