Is your computer acting sluggish, freezing up, or throwing tantrums with the infamous blue screen of death? It might be time to check on your hard drive. If it hasn’t completely given up yet, be sure to back up your important files ASAP before swapping it out for a new one. You’ve got this!

Step 1

– Alright, let’s get this lower case off! Grab your Phillips #0 screwdriver and remove these screws:

– Six screws measuring 9 mm — keep track of them!

– Four screws measuring 11 mm — don’t mix them up!

Step 2

– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and get ready to pop off the top cover of the laptop.

– Kick things off by gently prying at the front edge of the laptop. Slow and steady wins the race!

– Work your way around the cover, keeping it chill, and finish up just under the screen to fully release the front cover.

Step 3

– Pop the tiny white tab upwards to release the ZIF latch—it’s like opening a little treasure chest.

– Gently slide the white ribbon cable out of its socket to unplug it. Easy does it, you’re doing great!

Step 4

– To pop that ZIF latch on the keyboard cable, just give that grey rotating tab a little flip upwards!

– Now, with a gentle touch, ease the black and blue ribbon cable out of its cozy connector.

Step 5

– Alright, it’s time to lift out the keyboard and front panel—now you’ve got full access to the guts of your laptop!

Step 6

– Pop the gray tab on the white connector open using your trusty plastic opening tool to free those ribbon cables.

– Gently coax the ribbon cable out while keeping the gray tab propped up.

– If the cable’s stuck down with glue, don’t worry—just peel it off the hard drive with care.

Step 7

– Grab your #0 Phillips screwdriver and unscrew that little black 5mm screw near the USB and headphone port. It’s time to let it go!

– Now, use your trusty plastic opening tool to carefully remove the USB and headphone port. Gently wiggle it free, and you’re on your way!

Step 8

– Grab your trusty #0 Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the two black 5mm screws chilling in each corner of the hard drive. Take your time—you’re doing great!

– Once the screws are out, gently lift the hard drive out of the device like you’re picking up something fragile. Nice work!

Step 9

– Use a trusty plastic opening tool to gently unplug the power connector—no need to force it, it’ll cooperate!

– Grab your #0 Phillips screwdriver and remove that single black 5mm screw holding the hard drive controller PCB in place—it’s a quick win!

– Slide out the hard drive controller, and just like that, you’re ready for the next step!

Step 10

– Let’s get started! Remove the four black 3mm screws from the hard drive enclosure using a trusty #0 Phillips screwdriver.

– Gently pry the case away from the hard drive – it’s time to say goodbye to the exterior and hello to the inner workings!

– Carefully peel up the three foam contact strips, taking your time to avoid any tears or damage. You got this!

Success!
Alright, you’ve made it to the finish line! To put your device back together, just retrace these steps in reverse. If things get tricky or you need extra help, you can always schedule a repair.
