Ready to tackle the hard drive replacement on your Acer Aspire One ZG5? With the motherboard out of the way, swapping the hard drive is straightforward and smooth sailing!

Step 1

– Flip the netbook over so the battery is at the top and facing away from you. Let’s get started on this repair adventure!

– Slide the switch near the left hinge to the left until it clicks into the ‘unlocked’ position to free the battery. You’re doing great!

– Carefully pop up the left side of the wireless card and smoothly slide it out of its slot.

– Flip the netbook onto its back, then pop open the display so the keyboard greets you head-on.

– You’ll find three tabs chillin’ at the top of the keyboard.

– Grab your trusty spudger, aim it toward the display, and gently pry up to pop each tab off the keyboard.

– When you move on to the next tab, keep an eye on the last one so it doesn’t sneakily snap back into place.

Step 11

– Gently lift the top of the keyboard. If it’s feeling a bit stubborn, check for some sneaky tabs on the sides—grab your trusty tool to nudge them aside, or give the keyboard a gentle wiggle from side to side. You’ve got this!

– Gently lift the black plastic hinge and carefully remove the clear blue ribbon cable.

– Gently close the display and flip the ZG5 over, making sure the battery compartment is facing away from you. You’re doing great!

– Almost there! Now, flip it over and carefully take out the two 5.8 mm Phillips #0 screws hiding underneath the feet near the hinges.

– Flip your netbook back over and swing open the display, so the keyboard side is facing you, and you’re ready to rock this repair!

– Pop open the little retaining flap on the ZIF connector for the trackpad ribbon cable—easy does it!

– With the blue tab in hand, gently tug the trackpad ribbon cable out of its motherboard socket—smooth and steady wins the race!

Step 17

– Unscrew those five black 4.7 mm Phillips #0 screws holding down the metal casing—you’re doing great, keep it up!

– Now, tackle that lone silver 4.3 mm Phillips #00 screw on the right side of the metal casing—piece of cake, right?

– Start by locating those red rings near the hinge and grab your trusty spudger or plastic opening tool. Slide it gently into the seam where the two halves of the case meet—take your time, no rush!

– Then, shimmy that spudger forward toward the front end of your device. As you go, you’ll be popping those tiny clips open like a champ—super satisfying!

– Once those clips are freed, lift the top case carefully—easy does it! Congrats, you’ve got it off!

Step 19

– Unplug those two antenna cables from the right side of your wireless card like a pro! You’ve got this!

Step 20

– Unscrew the lone 3.9 mm Phillips #1 screw holding the wireless card in place—time to set it free!

Step 21

– Carefully nudge the wireless card to the right and slide it out of its cozy little socket.

– Let’s get started! Carefully disconnect the display cable from the top left of the motherboard.

– Unplug the speaker cable from its cozy spot on the motherboard.

– Carefully lift the I/O board from the right side of the case, giving it a little love as you go.

– Gently lift the whole motherboard assembly out of the case, like you’re performing a delicate dance. You’ve got this!

Step 28

– Flip the motherboard over so the RAM is facing up.

– Unplug the I/O board from the motherboard and give it a little wave goodbye!

– Pop out those two 4.7 mm Phillips #0 screws holding down the hard drive—you’re just two steps away from progress!

– Slide the hard drive out from the motherboard like you’re easing a book off a crowded shelf. Keep it cool and steady.
