Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 18 Steps
Before you can lift off the top case, you’ll need to tackle a few screws and disconnect some cables. Don’t forget, the battery and keyboard are also on the list for removal. Let’s get to it!
Step 1
– Flip the netbook over so it’s upside down, with the battery at the top and pointing away from you.
Step 2
– Slide the switch near the left hinge to the left until it clicks into the ‘unlocked’ position to free the battery. You’ve got this!
Step 3
– Gently slide the latch on the hinge opposite the lock while giving the battery a little nudge upwards.
Step 4
These screws are part of the panel and are designed to stay put. No need to take them out completely!
– Carefully unscrew the two Phillips #0 screws on the tiny panel that protects the wireless card. You’ve got this!
Step 5
– Gently lift the panel and take it out of the case like a pro!
Step 6
– Time to get disconnected! Carefully detach the two antenna cables from the left side of the wireless card.
Step 7
– Let’s get started by removing the single 3.9 mm Phillips #1 screw from the bottom left of the wireless card. It’s a breeze, just take your trusty screwdriver and gently take it out.
Step 8
– Give the left edge of that wireless card a gentle lift, then smoothly slide it out of its socket—easy does it!
Step 9
– Flip your netbook upside down, swing open the display, and get that keyboard front and center—you’re ready to roll!
Step 10
– Alright, let’s tackle those tabs! There are three sneaky little tabs chillin’ at the top of your keyboard.
– Grab your trusty spudger, aim it towards the display, and gently pry upward to pop each tab free. It’s kind of like convincing your keyboard to let loose a bit.
– As you move to the next tab, make sure the previous tab doesn’t sneak back into place, alright? Keep an eye on those little troublemakers!

Step 11
Hey there! Just a heads up, there’s a little ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to your netbook. Keep an eye on it while you work your magic!

Step 12
– Gently lift the black plastic hinge to disconnect the ribbon, then slide out the clear blue cable. You’ve got this!
Step 13
– Flip the ZG5 over so the battery compartment is facing away from you, with the display closed. Easy does it, you’re doing great!
Step 14
– Take out three 5.8 mm Phillips #0 screws hanging out at the bottom of the case—easy peasy!
– Pop out three 3.9 mm Phillips #1 screws hiding in the battery compartment. You’ve got this!
– Unscrew two 5.8 mm Phillips #0 screws chilling under the feet near the hinges. Almost done!
Step 15
– Flip the netbook back over, open up the display, and keep the keyboard cavity facing you like a pro.
Step 16
– Gently lift the retaining flap on the trackpad ribbon cable ZIF connector. You’ve got this!
– With the help of the handy blue tab, carefully pull the trackpad ribbon cable out of its cozy spot on the motherboard. Easy peasy!
Step 17

– Now, locate the single silver 4.3 mm Phillips #00 screw on the right side of the metal casing and remove it with confidence!
Step 18
– Begin by placing your trusty spudger or plastic opening tool at those snazzy red rings near the hinge. Slide it right into the seam where the two halves of the case meet.
– Now, give that spudger a gentle push toward the front of the device. You’ll hear a satisfying click as the tiny clips holding down the top case release.
– With a little finesse, carefully lift off the top case and reveal the inner workings!
