Echo Dot 4th Generation Teardown
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 16 Steps
Step 1
– Slide something slim under the bottom layer and gently lift it off. You might need to apply a bit of elbow grease since it’s stuck on there pretty good.
Step 2
– Grab your trusty Torx 6 screwdriver and get those screws out. If you don’t have that, a T5 should do the trick too!
Step 3
– Time to pop open that device and get started!
– The top section is where you’ll find the speaker and all the important boards and components. Let’s get to work!
Step 4
– Unscrew the mainboard with a Torx 5 screwdriver. Keep those screws safe—you’ll need them again soon!
Step 5
– Carefully lift the mainboard, keeping in mind that it’s still connected to the LED panel and control board.
– Open your device from the side, starting near the volume up button.
Step 6
– Grab a spudger and gently lift the connector away. Be careful—it’s opening from the side opposite to where the cable is headed. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.

Step 7
– The best spot for this is right at the bottom, where it originally snugly fits.
Step 8
– Let’s get started by unscrewing those four torx 8 screws. You’ve got this!
– Now, gently lift the speaker out from the speaker grill. Easy peasy!
Step 9
– Gently remove the connector cable that’s partially glued in place. Take it slow, no rush!
– Grab your trusty Torx 6 or 5 screwdriver and remove those two screws. You’ll be one step closer to the fix!
Step 10
– Gently slide the panel out by following the direction of the arrows. You’ve got this!
Step 11
– Unscrew the four screws and set them aside, like the repair pro you are.
Step 12
– Pull of the glued connector cable.
Step 13
– Lift the lock from the opposite side of the cable. No rush, take it slow and steady.
– Be gentle when pulling out the cable. Don’t yank it up; instead, ease it out, as low as possible. Follow the arrow for guidance!
– Pay close attention to the orientation of the board. It’s not a huge difference, but it’ll help when you’re putting things back together.
Step 14
– Since the controller board is snugly seated, grab the flat edge of a spudger to gently lift it up.
– Leverage is your friend—use it carefully to pry the board loose without fuss.
