How to Replace Optical Drive in PlayStation 2 Slimline SCPH-750xx
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 12 Steps
Ready to tackle your PlayStation 2 Slimline? This guide is your trusty companion to glide you through the steps of removing and reinstalling the optical drive with ease. Let’s roll up those sleeves and get started!
Step 1
– First things first, power down your PlayStation 2 and gently unplug it from the wall. Oh, and don’t forget to pop that CD out before you turn it upside down!
Step 2
Five of these little feet are peeking out at you, easy to spot. But there’s a shy one hiding under the black void sticker on the back of the device.
Now, if you’re working on a version like the PAL edition, there might not even be a sticker! In that case, the foot or the screw will be right in plain sight, all ready for you.
– Spot the six little feet at the base of your PS2.
Step 4
– Peel off that sticker, then pop out the 6th foot like a pro.
Step 5
– Once all the feet are off, grab a Phillips #1 screwdriver and carefully unscrew the six 4.0mm screws holding the base of the PS2 together.

Step 6
Give the covers a gentle wiggle if they’re being stubborn—just don’t go Hulk on it and snap those plastic screw pins!
– Alright, once you’ve unscrewed everything, it’s time to pop those plastic covers apart. Start by gently prying up the side with the power cable and Ethernet port—nice and easy, no rush. Then swing over to the other side and lift it up to fully split the two halves. You’ve got this!
Step 7
– If you’ve nailed this step, you should now have the plastic backing completely off, giving you a clear view of the inner workings of the PlayStation 2. Nice job!
Step 8
– Find the optical drive on the motherboard. It’s usually not hiding too well, so a quick glance should do the trick!
Step 9
– Carefully unscrew the four 4.0mm screws that hold the optical drive in place on the motherboard. You’ve got this!
Step 10
Heads up: These ribbons come in three sizes—large, medium, and small. They are all different!
– Find the three ribbons that are connected to the motherboard. You’ve got this!
Step 11
Heads up! The orange ribbon is stuck to the metal chassis. Give it a gentle tug upwards—let’s keep that ribbon safe and sound!
– With a steady hand and a bit of finesse, use your tweezers to carefully unhook all three ribbons from the motherboard terminal. For the middle orange ribbon, give a gentle nudge to lift the black tab on either side and set it free!
