Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP Trackpads Replacement
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 8 Steps
Just to clear things up: the trackpads and the directional pad aren’t the same thing. This guide is all about swapping out the rubber pads beneath the buttons, not the buttons themselves. So, no need to worry about the actual buttons here!
Step 1
– Grab your trusty Phillips #00 screwdriver and loosen up that 4 mm screw holding the battery cover in place. Let’s get this cover off and move forward!

Step 2
Thanks to Nintendo’s clever design, the screw will stay put on the battery cover. 😎
– Gently pop off the battery cover and set it aside like a pro!
Step 3
Heads up! Be careful when handling the battery, as a swollen or damaged one can be a fire hazard. Let’s play it safe!
– Gently pry out the battery from your device using your fingers or a trusty plastic opening tool. It’s like giving your gadget a little spa treatment!
Step 4
– Let’s kick things off by unscrewing those four 6.5 mm screws nestled in the corners of the back cover. Grab your trusty tri-point Y00 screwdriver and get to work!
– Next up, it’s time to tackle the two 4.6 mm screws located at the top-center and bottom-center of the device. Keep that tri-point Y00 screwdriver handy and let’s make it happen!

Step 5
Heads up! Those inner components can be a bit shy when it comes to static electricity. Handle them with care during the next steps to keep your device safe and sound!
– Pop off the back cover.
– Watch out for the power switch—it might fall out when you remove the cover.
Step 6
– Grab your trusty Phillips #00 screwdriver and remove the three 4mm-long Phillips screws that are holding the motherboard in place on the button panel. Easy, right?

Step 7
Watch out for that ribbon cable connecting to the screen! If it gets torn, your device will be as blank as a canvas—no games will show up!
– Gently lift the motherboard and place it on the other half of the device, making sure the back of the buttons is visible just like in the picture.
Step 8
– With your fingers, carefully lift and remove the trackpads covering these parts:
– ‘A’ and ‘B’ buttons
– Directional Control Button Pad
– ‘Start’ and ‘Select’ buttons
