Let’s dive in and give your device some TLC. First, we’ll pop off the back panel and safely remove the battery. Then, we’ll show you how to reach the joystick for a quick repair or a much-needed cleaning. Let’s get started!
Step 1
Heads up: The captive screws are staying put and won’t fully come out of the back panel.
– Unscrew the two Phillips captive screws that are holding the upper rear panel in place. You’ve got this!
Step 2
– Carefully hinge the upper rear panel upwards and outwards to remove it – nice job getting this far!
Step 3
– Pop out the battery by gently lifting it from the side nearest the outer edge. Easy does it!
Step 4
– Let’s get started by removing the ten Phillips screws that hold the rear panel in place.
Step 5
Heads up! The rear panel is connected to the motherboard with a ribbon cable, so go easy and don’t yank it too far away from the device.
– Gently lift the rear panel straight up from the device.
Step 6
While you’re at it, pop off the Left and Right triggers. They come with hinges that might snap and springs that could go flying.
– Gently pop up the latch holding down the ribbon cable using your fingernail or the flat end of a spudger—take it easy, no need to rush!
– Carefully slide the ribbon cable out of its connector like you’re unplugging your favorite gadget. Smooth and steady wins the race!
Step 7
– Pop off the trigger button on the top right corner by pulling it up and out.
– Pull out the right red side panel.
Step 8
– Grab your trusty spudger and pop up that gray locking lever on the joystick ribbon cable ZIF connector. Lift it straight up from the motherboard, focusing on the side opposite the cable.
– With a gentle touch, slide the cable straight out of the connector. Easy does it!
Step 9
– Pop off those two 7.8mm Phillips screws holding the white joystick cover in place.
Step 10
– You did it! To finish, follow these steps in reverse order to get your device up and running.
