Fix Sony PlayStation 4 Ejecting Disk Issue
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 4 Steps
Step 1
– Here’s a quick workaround: peel back the rubber foot underneath the eject button just enough to slide in a little piece of paper or something insulating. Or, if you’re feeling bold, go ahead and remove that rubber foot entirely. Only move on to the next steps if this doesn’t do the trick—it didn’t for me, so let’s keep going!
– We’re going to pop off the PS4’s bottom cover and put a small piece of electrical tape over the Eject capacitive touch button. Nice and simple.
– This will disable the Eject capacitive touch button, so you’ll eject your disks through the PlayStation’s operating system or, in a pinch, by turning the physical eject screw. Let’s get to it!
Step 2
– The Eject button is part of the bottom cover.
– To get that bottom cover off, you’ll need to remove the three T8 Torx screws on the back of the PS4. These screws are hiding under some factory black stickers. Peel off the stickers to expose the screws underneath.
– Once those three screws are out, pop off the bottom cover by separating the back (where the screws were) from the PS4, then slide it off the front.
– Pro tip: Be gentle when removing those stickers! Using thin metal tools can scratch the plastic a bit.
Step 3
– Take a peek at the Eject button on the cover you just removed. On the back of it, you’ll spot a metal plate.
– This little plate transfers capacitance to the PS4’s circuit board. You’ll notice it ends with a cute curled piece.
– Look at the PS4 where the curled piece would connect. There’s a small square pad (about 4mmx4mm) on the circuit board.
– This square pad is what we’re going to cover with a bit of electrical tape to stop the capacitance transfer and disable the button.
– Cut a small square of electrical tape and cover that square pad with it.
Step 4
– Gently slide that bottom cover back into place.
– Give it a little snap to lock it onto the back.
– If you’re feeling extra secure, go ahead and fasten it with those three screws again.
– And for a touch of flair, you can pop those little black stickers over the screws once more!
