Ubee DVW23C Teardown
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 6 Steps
Step 1
– Take a quick look around the device, and you’ll spot 4 screws on the back and one near the power connector. Not too bad, right?
– So far, all the screws you’ll encounter are T10 Torx. Grab your T10 and let’s get to work!
Step 2
– Lift off the front panel to check out the guts inside.
Step 3
– The PSU is rocking a red color.
– The Broadcom chip is flaunting a bright orange hue.
– The DOCSIS Cable connector is showing off in yellow.
– The PSU Connector is rocking a vibrant green.
– The Antenna connectors are strutting their stuff in blue.
– The lights and diffusers are glowing in soft light blue.
– The ethernet and telephone jacks are putting on a magenta show.
Step 4
– Unscrew the single screw holding the PSU, plus the one at the power connector, and it slides right out.
– You’re looking at the N12-035N1A Power Supply from Chicony Power—classic stuff!
Step 5
– At last, when you pop off the motherboard, you’ll get a peek at its backside. Pretty neat, right?
Step 6
– Wrapping things up—this modem/router combo is actually pretty repair-friendly, which is a nice surprise coming from an ISP device.
– All the screws are the same type! While T10 heads aren’t exactly the MVP of user-friendliness, you’ll have no trouble finding a driver, and sticking to one screw size makes your life easier.
– The power supply unit (PSU) pops out for a quick swap, but the catch is it’s a custom part for this model, and not something you’ll spot online.
– So, while popping it open is a breeze, tracking down replacement parts can be a wild goose chase.
– Heads up: Backups are saved unencrypted, and there’s no option to update the firmware to fix this. Those backup files include both your password and a technician login (Username: technician / Password: C0nf1gur3Ubee#). Keep that in mind. If it all sounds like a bit much, you can always schedule a repair.
