Replace Hard Drive Mac Pro First Generation: Step-by-Step Guide
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 9 Steps
Let’s dive into swapping out your hard drive! These steps will walk you through removing the old one and installing a new drive in your Mac Pro First Generation Hard Drive Sled Adapter. Your device’s existing sled brackets are designed for 3.5″ hard drives, but this adapter lets you fit any 2.5″ SATA solid state, hybrid, or standard hard drive. It also ensures that the SATA connector lines up perfectly with the socket in your Mac Pro. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 1
– Pop the lever up to open the case!
Step 2
Before diving into the inner workings of your device, make sure to zap away any pesky static electricity! Just give a grounded surface a little touch—those metal PCI slot covers are perfect, or any other grounded metal surface will do the trick. And hey, if you have an anti-static wrist strap, feel free to rock that too!
– Let’s get started by removing the side panel of your Mac Pro. This is the first step in giving your device a brand new lease on life. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair
Step 3
– First things first, pop open that case and find your hard drive bay! It’s usually the one giving you the best view—typically the drive nearest to the front of the case.
Step 4
Ensure the clip for releasing the side panel is open, or else the Hard Drive bays will be a no-show!
– Gently tug the Hard Drive straight out by gripping the metal sled from the bottom. It might put up a bit of a fight at first, but once it’s free, the sled should slide out with ease. You’ve got this!
Step 5
When you’re working with the hard drive, remember to grip it by the sled or the sides, and keep those fingers away from the green circuit board that’s showing off in all three pictures. You’ve got this!
– First things first, let’s find those four 6-32 type screws hanging out on the Hard Drive sled. They’re waiting for you!
– Grab your trusty Phillips head screwdriver and carefully unscrew those four screws. Once they’re out, gently slide that metal sled away from the Hard Drive. You’ve got this!
Step 6
– Slide those two tabs on the left side of the metal adapter bracket right into the slots on the left side of the hard drive bay sled like you mean it!
– Now, let’s get those holes on the right side lined up nicely.
Step 7
Keep those screws a little loose for now; we’ll snug them up once the hard drive is in place!
– Pop in those two 7.8mm PH0 screws into the holes on the right side and secure them snugly!
Step 8
These screws are ready to be tightened up snug as a bug!
– Line up the holes on your hard drive with the three holes on the bracket – easy does it!
– Now, screw in those three 6.1mm PH0 screws into the bracket and hard drive. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair
Step 9
– Give those two 7.8mm PH0 screws on the right side of the bracket a nice snug twist!
