DIY Guide for Replacing Front Camera on Galaxy S6 Edge
Duration: 30 min.
Steps: 7 Steps
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to swap out that pesky front camera on your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. If your front camera is playing hide and seek, the aperture is stuck, or your selfies are coming out all fuzzy, it’s time for a little DIY magic! And remember, if you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 1
– The back of your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is glued down pretty well. To get it off, you’ll want to warm it up with a heat gun to soften that adhesive. Once it’s nice and toasty, grab a plastic pick and slide it into the tiny gap between the frame and the glass to break the seal.
– That gap between the aluminum frame and the glass is quite narrow. A flat, sturdy tool will do wonders here to help you get in there.
– Use a suction cup to gently lift the back cover. You’ve got this!
– Once you create a little opening, carefully use the plastic pick to keep the aluminum safe from any damage. You’re on the right track!
Step 2
The inside of the back cover has a coat of paint. Be sure to gently remove any sticky leftovers to keep it scratch and crack-free!
– Gently slide the pick in about two or three millimeters between the back cover and the frame—just enough to get in there without causing any ruckus inside! Remember, the back cover has a fancy paint job on the inside. Be sure to remove any sticky residue with care to keep it looking sharp and scratch-free.
– The back cover is snugly glued all around the outer edge of the Galaxy S6 Edge. So, take your pick and glide it all the way around the phone like you’re giving it a little hug.
– Once you’ve successfully separated all that glue, you can carefully lift the back cover off. Easy peasy!
Step 3
– First up, grab your trusty screwdriver and tackle those 13 Phillips screws holding the plastic cover tight (check out figure 1 for a visual). They’re 13 x 3.3 mm Phillips screws, so make sure you’ve got the right fit!
– Next, let’s pop out the SIM card tray. It’s a quick and easy win!
– Now, gently lift the charging pad for wireless charging. It’s just a little shy and lightly glued to the midframe, so be kind!
– To get that midframe off, you’ll need to give the battery a gentle push down while using your other hand to nudge the frame up. If it’s feeling stubborn, don’t hesitate to slide a pick between the display and frame and give it a little upward nudge. You’ve got this!
Step 4
– Gently slide the sharp end of the spudger just below the contact and lift it up with care. Remember, we want to keep those little resistors attached to the logic board safe and sound!
– Now it’s time to carefully disconnect the front camera connector. Take your time and be cautious!
Step 5
– Time to give that front camera a cozy new home in its original spot!
– Next up, let’s make that important connection to the brainy logic board.
Step 6
– First things first, let’s bring the outer frame back to its cozy home on the main component! Start at the dock connector and give those frame pieces a good, firm press together.
– Once they’re snuggled in, grab your trusty screwdriver and fasten them with some screws—specifically, those 13 x 3.3 mm Phillips screws. You’re almost there!
Step 7
– Alright, it’s time for the grand finale! Go ahead and pop that back cover on once more.
– Chances are, the old glue is still feeling a bit sticky, so you’re in luck!
– Gently place the back cover back on, give it a little warmth, and then apply a bit of pressure to keep it snug on the smartphone for a moment. You’ve got this!
