Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 14 Steps

Ready to swap out or upgrade the hard drive in your Asus Eee PC 1005HA? Follow along with this guide for a smooth sailing replacement journey.

Step 1

– Flip that laptop over so it’s doing a little yoga—upside down style!

– Hunt down those two sneaky battery lock tabs. They’re your ticket to success!

Step 2

– Gently slide the tabs outward to release the battery. It’s like giving it a little nudge to say, ‘Hey, it’s time to go!’

– While holding the right tab open, carefully slide the battery out of the laptop. It’s a smooth move – just like pulling out a drawer.

Step 3

– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and gently pop up the four metal latches hanging out in the battery compartment on the underside of your laptop.

Step 4

– Let’s get started! Flip your laptop over and open the display – it’s time to get inside and get fixing.

– Next, grab a plastic opening tool and carefully lift the edge of the keyboard closest to the screen. Easy does it!

– Now, gently lift the keyboard and slide it toward the screen. You’re making great progress!

Step 5

– Grab your spudger and pop those tabs open on the ribbon cable ZIF connector—it’s chillin’ underneath the keyboard, waiting for your magic touch.

– Once you’ve got the ZIF tabs freed up, slide the keyboard out like a pro. Easy peasy!

Step 6

– Flip your laptop upside down—this is where the magic begins.

– Take out the four 5.65 mm screws lining the bottom case. Keep those screws safe—losing them is no fun!

– Loosen up the captive screw that’s holding the RAM compartment cover. Don’t worry, this one’s designed to stay put.

Step 7

– Pop off the panel protecting your RAM—it’s just the cover, nothing scary here.

– Push those little RAM retaining clips outward, like opening tiny gates to freedom.

– Slide the RAM chip out gently, as if you’re pulling a VIP away from their spotlight.

Step 8

– Pop out that solo 6.65 mm screw chilling by the RAM socket—you’re one step closer to repair glory!

Step 9

– Flip the laptop back over and open up the display like you’re about to start a movie marathon.

– Unscrew the six 5.5 mm screws that are holding the metal plate beneath the keyboard. You got this, just a few twists and you’ll be in.

Step 10

– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and gently pop open those five plastic clips that are holding the upper case in place. You’ve got this!

– Now, with a little care, lift that upper case up and flip it towards the front of the laptop like a pro.

Step 11

– Gently flip up the little retaining flap on the ZIF connector for the trackpad ribbon cable—like opening the lid of a treasure chest.

– Carefully slide the trackpad ribbon cable out of its socket, giving it a smooth exit like a ribbon in the breeze.

Step 12

– First, gently flip up those retaining flaps on either end of the I/O board ribbon cable ZIF connector – it’s like opening a little gate!

– Next, carefully coax the I/O board ribbon cable out of its sockets. Take your time, it’s a delicate process!

– Now, remove the two 4.6 mm screws that are holding the hard drive in place. You’re making great progress!

Step 13

– Gently nudge the hard drive out of its socket with care.

– Grab the attached pull tab and smoothly lift the hard drive up and out of the case.

– As you put the hard drive back in, make sure that the WiFi antenna cable (a black loop seen below the disk in the 2nd photo) isn’t caught or squished underneath it.

Step 14

– Let’s get started by removing the four 3.6 mm screws that hold the hard drive tray in place. Take your time and make sure they’re all out before moving on.

– Now it’s time to gently pull the hard drive out of its tray. This is the easy part – just be careful not to touch any of the internal components.

Success!
You made it! To put everything back together, just work your way through these steps in reverse. Nice job!
