Heads up! Before you dive in, make sure you have all the right tools and a little bit of patience. If things get tricky, don’t hesitate to reach out and schedule a repair. We’re here to help you out!
Ready to tackle a broken ambient light sensor? You’ve got this! Just follow this guide and you’ll be on your way to restoring your device’s brilliance. And remember, if you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 1
Don those safety glasses to keep your peepers safe, and watch out for that LCD screen—it’s more delicate than it looks!
– Got a cracked display? No worries! Let’s keep those shards in check and make sure you stay safe by slapping some tape on that glass.
– Grab some clear packing tape and lay it down in overlapping strips over your iPad’s display until you’ve got it all covered up like a cozy blanket.
– Now, just follow the rest of the guide as best as you can. Keep in mind, once the glass is broken, it might get a little rebellious and crack more while you work. You might need to bring in a metal prying tool to scoop out those pesky pieces.
Step 2
The iPad in the pictures might have a slightly different look than yours, but don’t worry—the steps are the same!
– Slide a metal spudger into the gap between the right side of the display assembly and the rear panel assembly.
– Gently twist the spudger away from you to pop those tabs loose along the top edge of the display.

Step 4
Be super careful as you get close to the top edge of your iPad. That digitizer ribbon cable is hanging out near the rear panel edge and it’s a bit sensitive—one wrong move and it could get hurt!
– Keep gently prying the display assembly away from the rear panel, focusing on the bottom and left edges of your iPad. You’re doing great!
Step 5
Be careful not to lift the display assembly too high off the iPad! There’s a delicate antenna cable connecting the two parts that doesn’t have much slack. We wouldn’t want it to feel stretched out!
– Gently pry the display assembly away from the rear panel assembly at the bottom edge. If you’re feeling stuck, don’t worry – you’ve got this! If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 6
– Grab your trusty spudger and gently nudge the antenna connector that’s hanging out closest to the bottom of the iPad. You’ll want to lift it off its cozy spot on the communications board, so take your time and be careful!
Step 7
– Alright, let’s get started! In the upcoming steps, we’ll be gently disconnecting the three cables that link the display assembly to the logic board. These cables are connected to some pretty important components:
Step 8
Just a friendly reminder: flip up the retaining flap, not the socket itself!
– Grab your trusty iPod opening tool and gently lift up the retaining flaps that are keeping those digitizer ribbon cables snug in their sockets on the logic board.
– Now, with a steady hand, pull those digitizer ribbon cables straight out of their homes. You’ve got this!
Step 9
– Grab your trusty iPod opening tool and gently nudge that ambient light sensor connector upward to pop it out of its socket. You’ve got this!
Step 10
Gently tug the connector straight out, keeping it parallel to the logic board’s surface. You’ve got this!
– Time to disconnect that display data cable! Gently flip up the metal retainer using the black plastic pull tab. You’re doing great!
– Now, just pull the cable connector away from its socket like a pro. Easy peasy!
Step 11
– Gently detach the display assembly from the rear panel assembly, and you’re one step closer to your device’s revival!
Step 12
If needed, gently remove the foam tape from the ambient light sensor.
– There’s no need to go all out and remove the foam tape from the antenna completely. Just take it easy and work with what you’ve got!
Step 13
If you need to, go ahead and pop that plastic view window onto your new ambient light sensor before you dive into the installation.
– Grab your trusty iPod opening tool and gently slide it along the edge to nudge that ambient light sensor board free from its sticky situation on the display frame. Take your time here!
– Once you’ve created some space, carefully peel the ambient light sensor away from the LCD like you’re unwrapping a gift. Easy does it!
