Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 13 Steps

Ready to dive in? Let’s get that iPad’s logic board out of there! Follow along and we’ll make this process a breeze. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.

Step 1

– If your display glass has seen better days and is cracked, let’s keep it from shattering further and protect those precious fingers of yours! Grab some tape and let’s get to work.

– Start by laying down overlapping strips of clear packing tape across your iPad’s display until it’s fully covered. Think of it as giving your device a little protective hug!

– Now, follow the rest of the guide as best as you can. Just a heads up—once the glass starts to crack, it might decide to keep going. If that happens, don’t worry! A metal prying tool will help you scoop out the broken pieces.

Step 2

– There are 14 metal clips keeping the display assembly snug as a bug! As you go through the upcoming steps, try your best to maneuver around these clips and avoid slicing through them with your trusty opening tool. You’ve got this!

Step 3

– Slide a metal spudger into the gap between the top edge of the display assembly and the rear panel assembly.

– Gently twist the spudger away from you to free up those stubborn tabs along the top edge of the display.

– Pop in a second metal spudger between the top edge of the display assembly and the rear panel assembly to keep those tabs from snapping back like they didn’t see it coming.

Tools Used
  1. Metal Spudger

Step 4

– Grab your trusty spudger and start making your way down the right edge of the iPad like a pro.

– The front panel is snugly held to the aluminum back by some metal clips on the top, bottom, and left sides. Over on the right, you’ll find plastic tabs that slip into little recesses in the backplate.

– Once you’ve freed those clips, gently lift the left side of the front panel and slide it to the left, making sure those tabs clear the aluminum backplate. You’re doing great!

Step 5

– Gently pull the display assembly away from the rear panel assembly by its bottom edge. You’ve got this!

Step 6

– Next up, let’s get those three cables that connect your display assembly to the logic board all sorted out! These cables are responsible for some important components, and we’re going to disconnect them like pros. Let’s do this!

Step 7

– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and gently lift up those little retaining flaps that are keeping the digitizer ribbon cables snug in their spots on the logic board. You’ve got this!

– Once the flaps are up, carefully pull the digitizer ribbon cables straight out of their cozy sockets. Easy peasy!

Step 8

– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and gently coax the ambient light sensor connector out of its cozy little socket by prying it upwards. You’ve got this!

Step 9

– Gently detach the display data cable from the main board by lifting up the metal retainer using its handy black plastic pull tab.

– Carefully pull the cable connector out of its socket.

Step 10

– Carefully detach the display assembly from the back panel assembly. Give it a gentle nudge and let it know you’re just here to help!

Step 11

– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and let’s get to work!

– Gently lift the ZIF ribbon cable retaining flap located near the headphone jack. It’s like opening a little door to success!

– Now, give that headphone jack ribbon cable a gentle tug toward the left side of the iPad to disconnect it from its cozy socket.

Step 12

– Unscrew those pesky screws holding the logic board to the rear panel assembly. You’ve got this!

Step 13

– Gently slide the edge of a plastic opening tool under the dock cable connector and lift it straight up from the logic board. Easy does it!

– Now, carefully lift the logic board out of the rear panel assembly. You’ve got this!
