DIY Guide to Replace Earpiece on Google Nexus 5
Duration: 15 min.
Steps: 8 Steps
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of swapping out the faulty earpiece on your LG Google Nexus 5. If you’re struggling to hear your conversation partner or the sound is barely a whisper, this repair is just what you need. Let’s get started and bring back those clear calls!
Step 1
– Slide the hard plastic pick into the tiny gap by the volume button. You’ll need to unclip those 18 pesky retaining clips hiding just beneath the back cover. Glide the pick all around your smartphone like a pro! Start by the volume button, then cruise past the headphone jack to the SIM card tray—this is where the back cover will be nicer to you. You might need to give it a little extra oomph in some areas, but you got this!
– Once that’s done, go ahead and lift off the back cover!
Step 2
– First up, let’s tackle those 6 Phillips screws holding the plastic cover snugly in place (check out figure 1 for a visual!). We’re talking about 6 x 4.0 mm Phillips screws here.
– Once those screws are out of the way, gently lift the cover off the logic board. You can use a spudger to slide into the gap next to the headphone output (see figure 2). If you need a little extra leverage, feel free to explore other spots!
Step 5
– Time to pop that earpiece back into its cozy nook! The adhesive strip should still be good to go, giving you a strong hold.
Step 6
– Now put the new headphone output in the appropriate position. Carefully press on the part between the earpiece and the logic board. This step is a bit tricky.
Step 7
– Carefully place the black plastic cover onto the logic board and give it a gentle press to secure it.
– Now, grab those 6 Phillips screws and fasten them back in place to keep everything snug and secure. Remember, we’re using 6 x 4.0 mm Phillips screws here!
Step 8
– Putting the back cover back on is a breeze! Just align it in the right spot and give it a gentle press all around until you hear that satisfying click confirming it’s snug and secure.
