DIY Guide to Replace iPhone 8 Plus Front Camera Sensor Cable
Duration: 60 min.
Steps: 16 Steps
Need to fix your iPhone 8 Plus’ front camera or sensor cable? This guide will walk you through the process of replacing it. If your front camera isn’t working or your pictures are blurry, or if your screen no longer goes dark when you’re on a call, this repair is for you. Make sure to back up your data and discharge any static electricity before you start. Schedule a repair with us if you need any help along the way.
Step 1
– First, let’s make sure your iPhone is off to keep it safe and sound during the repair. Just press the Sleep/Wake button for about three seconds until you see the ‘power off’ slider pop up.
– Now, give that slider a swipe from left to right. Your iPhone will take about ten seconds to completely shut down. You’re doing great!
Step 2
2 × 3,4mm Pentalob
– Time to tackle those pesky pentalobe screws at the bottom of your device! They’re hanging out right next to the Lightning connector, one on each side. Make sure to keep them safe and sound on your magnetic pad so they don’t wander off!
Step 3
If you find it necessary, give the outer edges of the display a little warmth with a heat gun. Just a friendly reminder: the flex cables for the display are hanging out on the side of the Sleep/Wake button. And hey, keep in mind that once you open up your iPhone 8, the warranty for dust and splash protection (IP 67 rating) is no longer in play!
– First, let’s give your iPhone 8 Plus a comfy spot on a soft, clean surface to keep that shiny back from getting scratched.
– To lift off the front panel, gather your trusty suction cup, a hard plastic pick, and a heat gun. If your screen is looking a bit like a spider web, wrap it up in packing tape before moving on.
– The screen is glued to the frame, so we’ll need some warmth! Use that heat gun to gently warm the outer edges of the display to around 60°C (140°F).
– Now, place the suction cup over the Home button (or right next to it if that’s tricky). As you lift the screen with the suction cup, slide the hard plastic pick between the aluminum frame and the display frame, pressing down on the aluminum frame. Since the display is glued, you’ll want to slide the pick all around the iPhone to separate it. Just be careful not to poke too far near the Sleep/Wake button to avoid damaging those flex cables.
– Next, use the pick to gently lever the display out, allowing those tabs to pop free from the aluminum frame. You can now unfold the display to the side.
– Lean the display against something stable to prevent any overbending of those delicate flex cables.
Step 4
2 × 1,2 mm Phillips
1 × 1,4 mm Phillips
1 × 2,6 mm Phillips
Before you dive into the repair, make sure to disconnect the battery contact! This little step helps prevent any surprise short circuits and keeps your device from accidentally turning on while you’re working your magic.
– Grab your trusty Phillips screwdriver (Ph00) and let’s unscrew those Phillips screws! Once they’re off, gently lift the cover away. Remember to keep all the parts cozy in one section of your magnetic pad.
– Now, with a steady hand, use a plastic spudger to carefully lift the battery contact. Just slide it in gently below the connector and voilà!

Step 6
1 × 1,1 mm Y-Type
1 × 0,9 mm Y-Type
– Grab your Y-Type screwdriver (Y000) and let’s tackle those two Y-Type screws! Once they’re out, gently lift off the cover. Don’t forget to keep all the parts cozy in one section of your magnetic pad.
– Now, using a spudger, carefully disconnect the FaceTime contact from the PCB. Easy does it!
– And just like that, you can now remove the display completely. You’re making great progress!
Step 7
2 × 1,7 mm Phillips-Schraube
1 × 2,7 mm Phillips-Schraube
2 × 2,2 mm Phillips
Make sure to keep those screws organized, as mixing them up could cause damage to the display during assembly.
– The earpiece is on the back of the display unit. Remove the Phillips screws from the cover on the earpiece and store them safely in your magnetic pad. You’re making great progress!
– The earpiece is under the front camera’s flexible flat cable. Gently fold the cable to the side so you can remove the earpiece. Easy does it!
Step 8
Take it easy when you’re removing the FaceTime cable! It’s a bit delicate and can tear quite easily just to the left of the earpiece.
– First, slide that spudger or spatula under the flex cable and gently disconnect it. It’s got a strong hold on there, so take your time!
– Next up, carefully lift out those sensors like you’re lifting a delicate treasure.
– With a steady hand, remove the piece that has the four golden contacts using your spatula. You’re doing awesome!
– And now, it’s time to detach the cable set. You’ve got this!
Step 9
Getting the proximity sensor in the right spot is key for it to work its magic! So, let’s make sure it’s perfectly placed for all your phone’s cool features to shine.
– Pop each of those sensors snugly into their brackets.
– Connect the flex cable for the earpiece using those nifty little plastic tips to guide you right into place.
– Gently slide the FaceTime cable back to its cozy home.
Step 10
2 × 1,7 mm Phillips-Schraube
1 × 2,7 mm Phillips-Schraube
2 × 2,2 mm Phillips
Don’t go overboard tightening those screws, or they might just peek through the front finish! Keep it snug but not too tight!
– Place the earpiece back in its cozy spot, right below the flexible flat cable, nestled between the FaceTime camera and the sensors.
– Now, pop the cover back on and secure it with those five Phillips screws. Just make sure the front camera is perfectly centered on the display. If it needs a little nudge, feel free to adjust it!
Step 11
An iPhone repaired with a frame sticker will be protected against dust and spray water, but it will not be 100% waterproof!
Be sure to place that frame sticker just right! Each corner is uniquely shaped, so use that to guide you as you get it into position.
– To ensure that the new frame sticker adheres perfectly, start by cleaning off any leftover glue and dirt. A clean surface is key!
– Peel away the first layer of protective film from the frame sticker. Let’s get that beauty ready!
– Carefully align the frame sticker on one edge and attach it little by little. Make sure it’s even and give it a good press to secure it in place.
– Now, remove the remaining layers of film and admire your handiwork!
Step 12
Facetime connector
1 × 1,1 mm Y-Type
1 × 0,9 mm Y-Type
– Gently set the display onto the frame and connect that FaceTime contact to the logic board. You’ve got this!
– Now, pop the cover for the FaceTime contact back into your iPhone and secure it with those three Phillips screws. You’re doing awesome!
Step 13
Display Connector
Home Button Connector
– Let’s connect the Home button and display contacts to the logic board! Just a quick and easy step to get everything back in sync.
Step 14
Battery Connector
2 × 1,2 mm Phillips
1 × 1,3 mm Phillips
1 × 2,6 mm Phillips
– Reconnect that battery contact like a pro!
– Now, pop the metal cover back onto your iPhone and secure it with those screws. You’re almost there!
Step 15
Get creative with your bonding! You can use plastic clamps or even sandwich your device between two books to help that glue set just right.
Step 16
2 × 3,4mm Pentalobe
– Time to get those pentalobe screws back in their cozy spots! Just screw in the two screws on either side of the Lightning connector and secure them into the enclosure. You’re almost done!
