Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 31 Steps
Hey there, DIYer! Before diving in, remember to power off your device to avoid any surprise zaps. Safety first, fun fix second!
Powers up the battery and links it to the brain of the device!
Step 2
– Whip out your screwdriver and remove the trio of twin Phillips screws securing the memory door.
– Remember to keep track of which screws came from where—it’s like a puzzle, and you’ll thank yourself later when putting it all back together!
Step 3
– Gently hoist the memory door just enough to get a good grip on it, then shimmy it toward yourself and away from its snug home in the casing.
Step 4
– Unscrew the duo of Phillips screws chilling near the latch in the battery compartment.
Step 5
– Unscrew the following 6 screws:
Step 6
– Unscrew the four fabulous Phillips screws chilling on the port side of the computer.
Step 7
– Twist your computer 90 degrees and unscrew the two Phillips screws chilling at the back. Keep it cool, you got this!
Step 8
– Twist your computer 90 degrees and unscrew the four Phillips screws from the side. Keep the groove going!
Step 9
Hold up, don’t rush! Gently lift the upper case since it’s still connected to the logic board with a ribbon cable. No sudden moves, partner!
– Start by lifting the rear end of the case and wiggle your fingers along the sides to loosen it. Keep moving around the edges until the sides are free. You might have to give the case a little jiggle up and down to disengage the front part of the upper case. Hang in there, this part can be a bit of a pickle! Just above the DVD reader, there are 4 sneaky tabs that like to pull out vertically.
– Watch out for the two tiny tongues on the front left side of the upper case—they might get a bit bendy as you lift off the upper case. No sweat! When you’re putting it back together, just give them a gentle bend to tuck them back into the grooves of the lower case.
Step 10
– Unhook the trackpad and keyboard ribbons from the logic board, peeling off any tape you encounter along the way.
– Wrestle off that upper case like a champ!
Step 11
– Unplug the orange SuperDrive ribbon cable from the logic board, peeling off any tape if you need to. Rock on!
Step 12

Step 13

– Unplug the hard drive and ExpressCard connectors from the left side of the logic board. You’re doing great!
Step 15
– Unplug the eight connectors shown below from the logic board, peeling off any tape that’s in the way. Let’s keep it tidy!
Step 16
– Grab your trusty spudger and gently flip up the brown plastic flap that’s keeping the left ambient light sensor cable snug on the logic board.
– Gently slide the left ambient light sensor cable to the left and wiggle it out of its connector like a pro.

Step 20
– Hey there, awesome fixer! Ready to tackle those pesky screws? Let’s remove the following 16 screws, and be sure to gently move any cables out of the way as you go. You got this!
Step 21
– Slide the display data cable to the right, clearing away any tape that gets in your way.
– Lift and remove the peppy orange foil shield near the right speaker.
Step 22
– Give that speaker a twist! Turn it clockwise about 30 degrees and it’ll pop right off the logic board.
Step 23
– Gently lift up those cool gray and black speaker wires from the logic board, saying goodbye to the tape if needed.
Step 24
– Gently lift the iSight and inverter board cables away from the left fan. No need to be rough here!
– With one hand, keep the logic board steady while you use your other hand to carefully lift the left fan out of its cozy spot. There’s a sneaky piece of black tape holding the fan to the heat sink—take your time and peel that tape off as you lift the fan up.
– Now, just hover the fan above the Airport card. No need to completely detach it from the computer, just give it a little lift!
Step 26
– Gently hoist the left side of the logic board and unplug the snazzy multi-colored power cable from its snug spot beneath the board.
Step 27
Hold up! The logic board is still tethered by a sneaky cable, so let’s not yank it out just yet, okay?

– Grab the logic board on the left side and at its slimmest part, then give it a gentle twist to lift it out of the lower case.
Step 28
– Unplug the right thermal sensor cable from the logic board’s cozy spot near the DVI port. It’s just chilling there, waiting for you!
Step 30
– Unplug the funky multi-colored battery connector cable from the left I/O board.
Step 31
– Lift the snazzy orange tape that’s keeping the battery connector cozy in the lower case, then pop the connector out like a champ.
