DIY Guide to Replace Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Screen
Duration: 60 min.
Steps: 16 Steps
In this repair guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to swap out the faulty display unit on your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. If you’re dealing with a cracked glass, an unresponsive touchscreen, or an LCD that just won’t cooperate—like flickering or staying black—then this guide is just what you need! Remember, if you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 1
– The back of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is stuck on there pretty well, thanks to some strong glue. To get it off, you’ll want to warm it up with a heat gun to soften that adhesive. Once it’s nice and toasty, grab a plastic pick and gently slide it into the tiny gap between the frame and the glass to break the glue’s hold.
– Speaking of that gap, it’s quite narrow! So, make sure to use a flat, sturdy tool to help you get in there without any fuss.
– Now, with a suction cup in hand, carefully lift the back cover. You’ve got this!
– As soon as you see a little opening, slide in that plastic pick to keep the aluminum safe and sound.
Step 2
The inside of the back cover is painted. Carefully remove any sticky residue to avoid scratches or cracks. Don’t worry, you’ve got this! If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
– Gently slide the pick in just about two or three millimeters between the back cover and the frame. We want to keep the insides safe and sound! Remember, the back cover has a paint job on the inside. Be careful when removing any sticky leftovers to keep those scratches and cracks at bay.
– The back cover is glued all around the outer edge of the Galaxy S6 Edge. Glide that pick all the way around the phone like you’re tracing a masterpiece.
– After you’ve freed up all that glue, you can carefully lift the back cover off. You’re doing great!
Step 3
– Let’s kick things off by removing those 13 Phillips screws that are keeping the plastic cover snug as a bug (check out figure 1 for a visual guide). We’re talking about 13 x 3.3 mm Phillips screws here!
– Next up, it’s time to pop out the SIM card tray. Easy peasy!
– Now, gently lift the charging pad for wireless charging—it’s just a little stuck with some light glue to the midframe, so be patient.
– To get that midframe off, you’ll need to carefully push down on the battery while using your other hand to nudge the frame upward. If it’s feeling stubborn, don’t hesitate to slide a pick between the display and the frame to give it a little nudge upward.
Step 4
– Gently slide the pointed tip of your trusty spudger just below the contact and lift it upwards. Keep an eye out for those resistors on the logic board—let’s not give them a reason to take a vacation!
– Next up, it’s time to disconnect the front camera connector. Take a breath and proceed with care!
Step 5
Hey there! Just a heads up: there’s a tiny plastic pin hanging out in the SIM tray opening. Keep an eye on it so it doesn’t take a little tumble!
– Alright, let’s get rolling! First off, before we can say goodbye to the logic board, we need to unscrew those two sneaky black screws on the dock connector. We’re talking about 2 x 3.3 mm Phillips screws here!
– Next up, it’s time to disconnect a few contacts. Grab your trusty spudger and place its pointed tip just below the contacts. Give them a gentle lift. We’re looking to disconnect the Battery, Display (be sure to connect the new display and check all the functions), Earpiece, and Home button. Let’s keep moving!
– Now, insert that spudger right below the dock connector cable set. It’s lightly glued, so don’t worry, it should lift up without much fuss. Oh, and there’s a sensor there too that’s also lightly glued—time to give it some love!
– And voilà! You can now remove the logic board while still keeping that dock connector connected. You’re doing great!
Step 6
– Time to say goodbye to the vibration motor! Grab a sharp object and gently slide it underneath the motor, which is just a little stuck thanks to some light glue. Lift it up carefully, and don’t forget about the copper contact point that’s also hanging on a bit.
– Be gentle – we don’t want any tearing! If the vibration motor is still playing hard to get, a little warmth from a heat gun can help soften that glue and make things easier.
– Now, go ahead and remove the vibration motor.
Step 7
– To get that earpiece and sensor cable out of there, first, let’s tackle that silver cover on the cable set. Grab your trusty laboratory spatula and gently slide the pointed tip underneath the cover, giving it a little lift. Easy peasy!
– Once the cover is off, you can simply pull out the cable set. You’re doing great!
Step 8
Take your time and tread lightly! Those tools can be a bit clumsy around the battery, and we definitely don’t want any surprise fluid leaks. You’ve got this!
– Let’s get that battery out! Start by giving it a gentle warm-up to loosen the glue holding it in place.
– Using a spudger or a plastic pick, carefully lift the battery just a tiny bit—about a millimeter at a time.
– Keep the warmth coming! Heat the battery at intervals to keep that glue nice and soft, making it easier to lift without any sticky drama.
Step 9
– Time to get started! Remove all the protective stickers from your brand new display.
– Not all displays are created equal, so take a closer look at the backs of your old and new screens. If needed, transfer some indicators from the old display to the new one before installing it. Easy peasy! If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 10
– Alright, let’s get that battery back in! Just make sure it’s lined up just right.
– Double-check that the Home button cable is not hiding under the battery.
– Gently press it down onto those sticky adhesive+strips+Samsung+Galaxy+S6+Edge&crid=1TJIMMAJSUJUZ&sprefix=repair+tools%2Caps%2C165&linkCode=ll2&tag=salvationrepa-20&linkId=c486487cf454ce8edd6f5beefab4110f&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl’>adhesive strips.
Step 11
– Now, gently place the earpiece/sensor cable back into its cozy little spot.
– Once you’ve got it snugly in place, don’t forget to pop that silver cover back on!
Step 12
– Alright, it’s time to pop that vibration motor back into its cozy little spot! The old glue should do the trick, so give it a good press to make sure it’s snug.
– If it feels a bit wobbly, don’t hesitate to add some fresh glue. Remember, a secure motor means your phone will vibrate like a champ!
Step 13
– Alright, let’s get that logic board back in its cozy frame! Start by connecting the dock connector to the logic board.
– Once it’s snugly in place, go ahead and install the rest of the logic board. Just keep an eye on those cables—make sure they’re not hiding underneath! Check the picture to confirm your logic board is sitting pretty.
– Now it’s time to reconnect all those connectors: Battery, Display, Earpiece, and Home button. Let’s get them all back together!
– Finally, grab those black screws for the dock connector and fasten them down. You’ll need 2 x 3.3 mm Phillips screws. You’re doing great!
Step 14
– First, gently place the front camera back where it belongs, just like tucking in a cozy blanket.
– Next up, connect that little connector to the logic board, making sure it’s snug and secure!
Step 15
– Time to reunite the outer frame with the main component! Begin at the dock connector and give those two frame pieces a good press together.
– Once they’re cozy, let’s secure them with some screws. Grab your 13 x 3.3 mm Phillips screws and tighten them up!
Step 16
– Alright, you’re almost there! Just pop that back cover on one last time.
– Don’t worry, the old glue is still doing its job and is likely sticky enough.
– Gently place the back cover back on, give it a little warmth, and then apply some pressure to secure it onto your smartphone for a bit. You’ve got this!
