Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 33 Steps
Heads up, repair rockstars! Before diving in, make sure you’re all set with the right tools and a little patience. If you hit a snag or need an extra hand, just schedule a repair and we’ll be there to help!
Get ready to tackle that broken dock connector with this handy guide! While some parts of this guide feature a Wi-Fi model, and the insides may look a tad different from your cellular model, don’t worry! The steps are pretty much the same, except where we point out differences. Let’s dive in and get your device back in action! If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 1
We suggest giving your microwave a little love before diving in, as any leftover gunk on the bottom could hitch a ride on the iOpener.
– Pop that iOpener right in the middle of your microwave, and let it warm up!
Tools Used
Step 2
Keep an eye on that iOpener during your repair adventure! Letting it overheat can lead to a dramatic burst, and nobody wants that. Aim to keep it under 100˚C (212˚F) for safe heating.
If your iOpener is looking a little puffed up, it’s best to steer clear. Safety first!
Is your iOpener feeling a bit too toasty in the middle? No worries! Just keep using it while it cools down a bit before giving it another heat session. Remember, a properly warmed iOpener can stay cozy for up to 10 minutes.
– Pop that iOpener in the microwave for thirty seconds to get it nice and toasty!
– As you work through the repair, keep an eye on the iOpener—when it starts to cool down, just give it another thirty seconds in the microwave to warm it back up.

Step 3
Be cautious with the iOpener—it’s going to be super toasty! Grab an oven mitt if you need a little extra grip while handling it.
– Carefully take the iOpener out of the microwave, gripping it by one of the two flat ends to steer clear of the hot center. Stay cool and safe!

Step 4
If a microwave isn’t in your kitchen arsenal, no worries! Just pop your iOpener into some boiling water to give it a warm-up.
– Grab a pot or pan and fill it up with enough water to give your iOpener a nice, warm bath.
– Bring that water to a boil and then turn off the heat. We want it hot, but not boiling over!
– Gently lower your iOpener into the hot water for about 2-3 minutes. Make sure it’s fully submerged, giving it a cozy soak.
– Using tongs (safety first!), carefully lift the heated iOpener out of the water.
– Give your iOpener a good towel dry—no one likes a soggy iOpener!
– And voilà! Your iOpener is all set and ready to rock! If it needs a little more heat, just repeat the process: boil the water, turn off the heat, and let it soak for another 2-3 minutes.

Step 5
Don those safety glasses to keep your peepers safe, and remember to handle that LCD screen with care – it’s more delicate than it looks!
– Got a cracked display? No worries! Let’s keep things safe and sound by applying some tape to contain any flying glass shards during your repair adventure.
– Grab some clear packing tape and lay down overlapping strips over the iPad’s display until the entire face is covered. Think of it as giving your device a little protective hug!
– Now, just do your best to follow the rest of the guide as outlined. Keep in mind, once that glass is broken, it might want to keep cracking as you work. If that happens, don’t be shy about using a metal prying tool to help scoop out those pesky glass pieces.
Step 6
Just a heads up, while you’re diving into this repair, you might encounter some broken glass. We highly suggest rocking a pair of safety glasses to keep those pesky shards at bay. Stay safe and stylish!
– Place the iOpener flat against the right edge of your iPad, making sure it’s snug and cozy for a solid connection between the iPad’s surface and the iOpener.
– Give the bag a little time to work its magic on the iPad for about 90 seconds before diving in to open the front panel.

Step 7
Getting that wedged tip of the opening tool between the glass and plastic might take a bit of elbow grease. No worries, though! Just take your time and gently wiggle the tool back and forth as needed. You’ve got this!
– Hey there! Spot the small gap in the iPad’s adhesive ring at the upper right corner? It’s about 2.0 inches (~5 cm) from the top. Let’s take advantage of this little opening to get started!
– Now, align your tool with the mute button. Gently insert the tip of a plastic opening tool into that gap between the front glass and the plastic bezel. Just slide in the very tip of the tool—enough to widen that crack a bit. You’re doing great!
Step 9
– With the plastic opening tool snugly placed between the front glass and the plastic bezel, gently slide a plastic opening pick into that little gap, right next to your trusty tool. You’ve got this!
Step 10
– Gently take out the plastic opening tool from your iPad, and slide the opening pick a little deeper underneath the front glass—about half an inch should do the trick!
Step 12
This adhesive is super strong, so you might need to channel your inner superhero! Just take your time and be gentle.
If you can spot the tip of the opening pick peeking out from under the front glass, gently pull it out a bit. While it’s totally safe to have the pick that deep, just a heads up—it might leave some adhesive residue on the LCD. No biggie, just keep it in mind!
– As the iOpener works its magic on the bottom edge, let’s get the party started by loosening the adhesive along the right edge of your iPad.
– Grab your opening pick and slide it down the edge of the iPad, gently working to free that pesky adhesive as you go.

Step 13
You might want to slide that warm iOpener back onto the right edge of the iPad as you peel away the adhesive. This little move depends on how cool the iPad has gotten while you were busy working your magic.
– If your opening pick is feeling a bit stuck in the adhesive, just give it a gentle roll along the side of the iPad to help loosen that sticky stuff up. You’ve got this!

Step 14
– Before you dive in and take out that first opening pick from the bottom corner of your iPad, make sure to slip a second pick under the right edge of the front glass. This little buddy will help keep the adhesive from getting clingy again!
– Give your iOpener a little heat boost, then place it at the top edge of the iPad to keep things nice and toasty.

Step 15
The Wi-Fi antenna is snugly secured to the bottom right corner of your iPad’s rear case with screws and a cable. Given the way the Wi-Fi antenna is positioned, it’s super important to handle it carefully to avoid any permanent damage. Let’s keep that connection strong!
– Take a deep breath and get ready to proceed with care! We’re about to tackle some delicate work.
– You’ll need to gently free the adhesive that’s holding the antenna to the front panel, all while making sure not to harm the fragile components connecting the antenna to the bottom of the iPad. So, let’s move forward step by step with caution and precision!
Step 16
Hey there! Just a friendly reminder: don’t slide the pick beyond the bottom right corner. Doing so could put a hurt on your Wi-Fi antenna. Keep it safe and sound!
– Gently slide the opening pick around the bottom right corner of your iPad to free up that pesky adhesive!
Step 17
As you glide that opening pick along the bottom right edge of the front panel, keep in mind that the Wi-Fi antenna is hanging out nearby. It’s a bit shy and can easily get cut off if you don’t handle the adhesive just right. So, take it easy and go slow!
Just give that pick a gentle tug—no need to yank it out completely! Leave about 1/8″ (3 mm) of the tip cozy under the front glass. You’ve got this!
– Gently glide the tip of your trusty opening pick along the bottom edge of the iPad, letting it work its magic to free the adhesive around the Wi-Fi antenna.
Step 18
– Alright, once you’ve navigated past the Wi-Fi antenna (that’s about 3 inches or 75 mm from the right edge, right next to the home button), it’s time to reinsert that opening pick all the way in. You’ve got this!
– Now, slide that pick over to the right—it’s your moment to shine! This will help release the adhesive that’s keeping the Wi-Fi antenna snug against the front glass. Easy peasy!
Step 19
Keep the iOpener’s heating sessions to a minute max, and give it a breather of at least two minutes before giving it another go. Your patience will pay off!
If the adhesive has gotten a bit too cool along the bottom edge, just give your iOpener a quick reheating session to warm things up right where you’re working. Keep it cozy!
– Keep on gently peeling back that adhesive along the bottom of the iPad! Slide the opening pick around the home button, and when it’s past that little guy, pop it back in to a depth of about 1/2 inch (10 mm). You’re doing great, keep it up!
Tools Used
Step 20
– Keep peeling away that sticky stuff all along the bottom edge of your iPad.
– Once you’re in there, prop the opening pick under the front glass by the home button and let it hang out for a bit.
Step 22
If the adhesive has cooled down a bit too much, no worries! Just swap out the iOpener along the top edge and keep on going. If your iOpener feels a bit chilly, just give it a little reheat and you’re good to go!
– Gently glide the opening pick along the top edge of your iPad, giving it a little tug to maneuver around that front-facing camera bracket.
– This section is pretty sticky, so you might need to put in a bit of elbow grease. Take your time and be cautious—let’s avoid any slips that could lead to a mishap with your iPad!
– If the opening pick feels like it’s stuck in the adhesive, try giving it a little ‘roll’ like shown in step 9.

Step 23
If the adhesive is feeling nice and toasty, go ahead and take the iOpener off the iPad for a bit of ease. But if it’s still giving you a sticky situation, just reheat that iOpener and place it on the left edge while you get to work.
– Keep peeling that adhesive off along the top edge of your iPad, then gently slide the opening pick around the top left corner. You’ve got this!

Step 24
Hey there! The digitizer cable is hanging out about 2″ (50 mm) up from the bottom of your iPad. Make sure to stop sliding the pick when you reach around 2.25″ (60 mm) from the bottom. You’ve got this!
– Gently glide that opening pick along the left edge of your iPad, letting it work its magic on the adhesive as you go. The adhesive here is pretty slim thanks to the digitizer running along the whole left side. Just a friendly tip: keep that pick no deeper than 1/2 inch (10 mm) to avoid any accidental run-ins with the digitizer. You’ve got this!
Step 25
Be super careful, friends! The bottom of the digitizer cable is only about 1 inch (25 mm) from the iPad’s bottom. Take your time and work gently to avoid cutting this cable. You’ve got this!
– With the trusty opening pick still tucked under the bottom edge of your iPad, gently pry away the adhesive in the bottom left corner. You’ve got this!
Step 26
– Grab one of those nifty opening picks and gently lift the bottom right corner of your iPad. Once it pops up, use your fingers to hold it in place.
Step 27
Watch out for any sticky stuff that might still be hanging on! Grab an opening pick and gently slice through any adhesive that’s keeping the front panel in place.
– Grab your iPad by the top and bottom right corners, and give that front glass a gentle twist away from the device. You’ve got this!
– When you’re putting everything back together, don’t forget to whip out a microfiber cloth and some compressed air to banish any dust or fingerprints from the LCD. A clean screen is a happy screen!
Step 28
– Go ahead and take out those four 2.0 mm Phillips screws that are holding the LCD snugly against the rear case. You’ve got this!
Step 29
– Gently lift the LCD from the edge nearest to the volume buttons and swing it away from the rear case with a little flair.
– Carefully place the LCD down on the front panel just like you see in the second picture. You’ve got this!
Step 30
– Grab a trusty plastic opening tool and gently pry away the piece of tape that’s holding down the end of the dock connector cable. You’re almost there!
Step 31
– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool and gently nudge the dock connector cable’s connector upward from its cozy spot on the logic board.
– Carefully peel the dock connector ribbon cable away from the rear panel, like unwrapping a delicate present.
– Remember, there’s no need to pull the cable completely free; it’s still happily attached to the rear panel.
Step 32
– Take out those two 2.0 mm Phillips screws that are holding the dock connector snugly to the rear panel. You’re doing great!
Step 33
– Gently tug the dock connector away from the edge of the rear panel and lift it out of your iPad 2.
