DIY iPad 6 Wi-Fi Home Button Assembly Replacement Guide
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 81 Steps
Heads up! The Touch ID sensor in the home button is paired to its logic board, so swapping out the home button will nix your Touch ID functionality.
Get ready to tackle the home button assembly replacement on your iPad 6 Wi-Fi! Just a heads up: the Touch ID sensor is like a best friend to its logic board, so swapping out the home button means saying goodbye to Touch ID. When you’re isolating the battery with a battery blocker, take it easy—those battery contacts are delicate and can get damaged pretty easily. If you decide to skip the battery isolation, steer clear of metal tools unless absolutely necessary (like for those pesky screws) to keep the battery and sensitive circuit components safe. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair!
Step 1
– Warm up that iOpener and give the left edge of your device a cozy two-minute heat therapy. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.

Step 2
– As you chill and let the adhesive do its thing, keep an eye out for these areas that are a bit touchy when it comes to prying:
Step 3
The next three steps show off the Anti-Clamp, a cool tool we created to make opening your device a breeze. If you’re not using the Anti-Clamp, just jump ahead three steps for an alternate method.
– Give that blue handle a gentle tug in the backward direction to unlock the Anti-Clamp’s arms.
– Secure your iPad in place by slipping an object underneath to keep it level between the suction cups.
– Strategically position those suction cups towards the center of the left side—place one at the top and the other at the bottom.
– Keep a firm grip at the base of the Anti-Clamp while confidently giving a press down on the top cup to activate the suction.
Step 4
– Give that blue handle a gentle tug forward to lock those arms in place.
– Twist the handle a full 360 degrees or until you see those suction cups start to stretch out.
– Keep an eye on those suction cups to make sure they’re staying in sync. If they start to drift apart, just loosen them a bit and realign those arms.
Step 5
– Take a breather for a minute to let that adhesive loosen up and create a little gap for you.
– If your screen isn’t warming up enough, feel free to grab a hair dryer and give the left edge of the iPad a gentle heat-up.
– Slide an opening pick under the digitizer once the Anti-Clamp has made a nice enough gap for you.
– Go ahead and skip the next step.
Step 6
Got a seriously cracked screen? Try covering it with clear packing tape so the suction cup sticks better. Or, if you like, use some strong tape instead. Still no luck? Superglue the suction cup to the screen. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
– First things first, let’s warm up that screen until it’s cozy to the touch! Once it’s feeling nice and toasty, grab a suction handle and stick it to the left edge of the screen, as close to the edge as you can get.
– Now, gently lift the screen using the suction handle to create a little gap between the digitizer and the frame. Just a small opening will do!
– Next up, slide an opening pick into that gap you just made between the digitizer and the frame. You’re doing great!

Step 7
No worries if you spot the opening pick peeking through the digitizer — just give it a gentle tug and pull it out. Your LCD screen should be just fine, but be mindful of any sticky adhesive that might be left behind. A little cleanup might be in order!
– Now, let’s add a second opening pick into that gap you just rocked.
– Gently slide the pick towards the bottom-left corner of your device to break up that adhesive party.
– Pop that pick into the bottom-left corner to keep the stickiness at bay.
Step 8
– Should the opening pick happen to find itself stuck in the adhesive, simply ‘roll’ the pick alongside the iPad to keep peeling off the adhesive with ease.
Step 9
– Gently slide the first opening pick up to the top-left corner of your device to break that adhesive seal.
– Keep the pick in the top-left corner to stop the adhesive from sticking back together.
Step 10
– Warm up your iOpener and press it against the top edge of your device for a cozy two minutes.
Tools Used
Step 11
– Gently rotate the pick around the top-left corner of the device to work its adhesive-free magic.
Step 12
Keep that pick away from the front camera, or you’ll end up with a scratched lens. Follow these steps to avoid any mishaps.
– Gently glide the opening pick along the top edge of your device, making sure to pause just shy of the front camera. You’re doing great!
Step 13
– Gently pull the pick out until just the tip is nestled between the digitizer and the frame.
– Slide that pick right above the front camera to help break the adhesive free.
– Keep the pick close to the right side of the front camera as you move forward with the repair.
Step 15
– Warm up your iOpener and place it snugly on the right edge of your device for a chill two-minute spa session.

Step 16
– Gently spin the pick around the upper-right corner of your device to loosen the glue.
Step 17
The display cables can be found about halfway up from the bottom of the iPad. When you’re sliding, take a breather and stop when you’re about three inches from the bottom of the iPad. You’ve got this!
– Grab a fresh opening pick and gently slide it into the middle of the iPad’s right edge. You’re on your way to a successful repair!
Step 18
– Warm up your iOpener and press it against the bottom edge of your device for a cozy two minutes.

Step 19
– Gently slide the bottom-left pick into the corner to break that adhesive seal like a pro.
– Keep the pick snug in the bottom-left corner while you gear up for the next step.
Step 20
– Stick that new opening pick into the gap you just made at the bottom edge of the iPad.
– Slide the pick over the antenna, and hold up—stop just before you hit the home button.
– Leave the pick chillin’ to the left of the home button before moving on. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair
Step 21
Keep it cool and slide that pick in only about 1 mm to keep the right antenna intact. You got this!
– Gently pop in an opening pick right into the gap you’ve just created.
– Slide the pick beneath the home button, gliding towards the bottom-right corner. Ensure only the tip rests snugly between the digitizer and the frame.
Step 22
– Pop that pick back in and glide it over to the home button to fully break free the bottom adhesive.
– Keep the pick snugly to the right of the home button before moving on.
Step 23
– Heat up an iOpener and lay it on the right edge of your device for a cozy two minutes.

Step 24
Take it easy with this step! Patience is key—make sure that adhesive is nice and toasty, and gently work that pick to separate all the sticky bits. If things get tricky, it’s totally cool to pause and give it another heat-up.
If you’re feeling a little pushback, no worries! Just reheat those edges and gently glide along with your trusty opening pick.
– Give the two opening picks a twist at the left corners of the iPad to slightly lift the digitizer, finishing up the adhesive separation in the process.
Step 25
– Gently lift up the left side of the digitizer to peel apart the sticky situation along the right side of your iPad.
Step 26
– As you give a little love to the digitizer, gently slide an opening pick between the two display cables to break free the last bit of adhesive holding them together.
Step 27
– Once you’ve peeled off all that sticky stuff, swing open the digitizer like a book and lay it down next to the iPad.
– When it’s time to put everything back together, give the leftover adhesive on the frame—and on the digitizer if you’re reusing it—a good clean with isopropyl alcohol. Pop on some fresh
