DIY MacBook Pro 15 Rear Display Bezel Replacement Guide

Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 22 Steps

Get ready to spruce up your worn-out rear display bezel with these easy steps!

Step 1

– Give those battery release tabs a gentle nudge away from the battery with your fingers, then lift that battery out like you’re lifting a slice of pizza from the box. Easy peasy!

Step 2

– Whip out your Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the trio of identical screws holding down the memory door.

– Keep a keen eye on which screws come from where. Trust me, it’s a game changer for reassembly!

Step 3

– Gently hoist the memory door just enough to get a good grip on it, then slide it toward yourself and whisk it away from the casing. It’s almost like magic!

Step 4

– Unscrew the dynamic duo! You’ll find two spunky Phillips screws hanging out in the battery compartment near the latch. Give them a twist and set them free!

Step 5

– Alright, let’s get those 6 screws out!

Step 6

– Unscrew those four Phillips screws on the port side of your computer and let’s get this party started!

Step 7

– Twist the computer 90 degrees and pop out the two Phillips screws from the back.

Step 8

– Give your computer a little twirl! Spin it 90 degrees and then whisk away the four Phillips screws from the side. You’re doing great!

Step 9

– Start by lifting the rear of the case, then wiggle your fingers along the sides to loosen it up. Keep going until the sides are free. You might need to give the case a little rock-a-bye to loosen the front. Hang tight, this part can be a bit of a puzzle! Just above the DVD reader, there are 4 sneaky tabs that need a gentle pull outwards.

– Watch out for the two cheeky little tongues on the front left of the upper case; they might get a bit bent out of shape as you lift off the upper case. No stress! When you’re putting it back together, just give them a little tweak to tuck them back into their cozy grooves in the lower case.

Step 10

– Unplug the trackpad and keyboard ribbon cables from the logic board, peeling off any tape as needed.

– Take off the upper case.

Step 11

– Time to unplug those two antenna cables from the Airport Extreme card! You’ve got this.

– Just a heads up, the white antenna cable is hanging out on the left side of the Airport Extreme card. Give it a gentle disconnect!

Step 12

– Gently guide those Airport antenna cables out of their cozy little channel in the left speaker.

Step 13

– To disconnect the iSight, inverter, and left fan cables from the logic board, give them a gentle tug in the direction of each cable. Remember, you’ve got this under control!

Step 14

– Unplug the display data cable from the logic board.

Step 15

– Take out the shiny silver T6 Torx screw that’s holding the ground loop on the display data cable to the casing. You’re doing great!

Step 16

– Hold the display steady with one hand while you take out these 3 screws like a pro:

Step 17

– Grab the display assembly on each side and gently lift it out of the computer. You’ve got this!

Step 18

– Pop out those two 5 mm Phillips screws from the lower left and right corners of the display (yep, just two in total). If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.

Step 19

– Get ready to jazz it up by sliding the flat end of a spudger straight as a board right in between the plastic strip chillin’ with the rear bezel and the front bezel.

– Keep the spudger hangin’ tight, then swivel it away from the display to give those front and rear bezels some space to shake things up.

– Glide along the left edge of the display like a smooth operator until the rear bezel is happily dancing away from the front bezel.

Step 20

– Pop in the flat end of a spudger just like a toast in a toaster—right between the plastic strip clinging to the rear bezel and the front bezel.

– Keep that spudger in place and give it a little twist away from the display; it’s like opening a jar of your favorite jam!

– Saunter along the right edge of the display until the rear bezel loosens up from the front bezel like a smooth dance move.

Step 21

– Wedge the flat end of your spudger between the front bezel and the plastic strip clinging to the rear bezel near the screw holes at the display’s lower corners.

– Twist that spudger of yours toward the rear bezel to gently persuade it away from the front bezel.

– Should the need arise, widen the space between the bottom edge of the rear bezel and the clutch cover until they part ways completely.

Step 22

– Grab the rear bezel from the bottom edge and give it a gentle twist away from the display assembly to free the top edge.
