Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 7 Steps
Be mindful of your device’s water seals when trying to fix any water-related issues, as tampering may void warranties or impact performance. If you’re unsure, consider scheduling a repair to avoid potential damage.
Ready to tackle the rear glass removal on your Samsung Galaxy S9? Just a heads-up, cracking open this beauty will mess with its waterproof seal. If you skip out on replacing those adhesive seals, your phone will still work like a champ, but it might lose its ability to fend off water. Don’t forget, you’ll need some fresh adhesive to stick everything back together during reassembly. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 1
The adhesive on the Samsung Galaxy S9 is tough! If the iOpener doesn’t do the trick, grab a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate. Just be gentle with the heat—the AMOLED display and internal battery are sensitive and can get damaged. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
– First things first, let’s power down that phone of yours. Safety first, right?
– Now, grab your trusty iOpener and give a long edge of the phone some love. Apply it to loosen that stubborn adhesive hiding beneath the rear glass. Make sure to let it work its magic for at least two minutes!

Step 2
The adhesive on the inside of the back cover is arranged just like you see in the image.
– Get ready to tackle that back cover! In the upcoming steps, we’re going to skillfully cut through the adhesive that’s holding it in place.
– You’ll want to carefully slice through the adhesive in the highlighted areas:
Step 3
If your phone’s rear glass is cracked, the suction cup might not grab onto it. No worries! You can try lifting it with some strong tape, or superglue the suction cup in place and let it dry before moving on. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
– Start by sticking a suction cup onto the back cover. You’ve got this!
– Gently lift the bottom edge of the back cover with your suction cup to create a little gap between the cover and the frame.
– Slide an opening pick into that gap and glide it over to the bottom right corner. Smooth moves!
– Now, grab a second opening pick and slide it over to the bottom left corner. Keep it going!
– Insert a third opening pick to hold the adhesive at bay while you continue with the removal process. You’re doing great!
Step 4
– Start by gently inserting just the tip of your opening pick. Slide it smoothly from the bottom left corner up along the side to the top.
– Once you’ve reached the top corner, keep that pick in place to stop the adhesive from sticking back together.
Step 5
Before you get too excited, remember not to pop the hood all the way open just yet! The dainty fingerprint sensor cable is still doing the limbo dance, connecting the back cover to the motherboard.
– Gently slide the opening pick from the bottom right corner up along the side to the top. You’re doing great!
– Now, slide that pick around the corner and slice through the last bit of adhesive at the top of the phone. Almost there!
Step 6
– Gently elevate the corner of the back glass where the volume button hangs out.
– Grab a spudger and skillfully lift to release the fingerprint sensor flex cable.
