Fairphone 1 Rear Camera Replacement
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 21 Steps
Ready to swap out that busted rear camera on your Fairphone? Follow this clear, step-by-step guide to get your phone snapping pics like new again!
Step 1
Look for a little dip or notch along the side near the bottom edge of the back cover. That’s your starting point!
– With the little groove as your helper, use your fingernail to gently pop the bottom part of the back cover off the phone.
Step 2
– Time to get started! Slide that back cover down and gently remove it from your phone. You got this!
Step 3
Just below the battery on the back of the phone, you’ll spot a tiny little dent hanging out.
– Time to get that battery out – use your fingernail to gently push it towards the top of the phone from the indentation
– Now, carefully pull the battery away from the phone to remove it
Step 4
– Take out the battery from your Fairphone.
Step 5
Don’t forget to pop out all your SIM cards before diving into your phone repair adventure!
If you’ve got a second SIM card, go ahead and repeat the procedure to get everything up and running smoothly.
– Give your SIM card a gentle nudge downward with your finger to slide it out of the tray.
– Lift out the SIM card from your Fairphone—mission accomplished!
Step 6
– Got a microSD card? Awesome! Gently slide it straight out of its slot with your finger, no need to rush.
– Now, just pull the microSD card right out of your phone. Easy, right?
Step 7
– Unscrew the five 3.9 mm Phillips #000 screws that are holding the midframe in place with the display assembly. Easy does it, no rush!
Step 8
The midframe is cleverly held in place by several small plastic clips that keep it snug against the display assembly.
– Let’s get started! Use an opening pick to carefully pry the midframe away from the display assembly. Take your time and work gently to avoid any damage.
– Now, begin just below the volume rocker and work your way down toward the bottom of the phone. As you go, you’ll need to free the plastic clips along the side. It’s like a little puzzle, and you’re the master solver!
Step 9
– Gently ease your way around the corner to separate the midframe from the display assembly.
Step 10
Once you round that next corner, the midframe should be loose along the bottom and sides. You’re almost there!
Step 11
Keep those opening picks away from the power button, USB port, and headphone jack—nobody wants a bent tool or a busted port!
– Now it’s time to get this repair started! Take your opening pick and carefully pry along the top seam to loosen it up.
Step 12
– Separate any remaining clips and remove the midframe from the phone. Now carefully pull the midframe away from the phone.
Step 13
When putting everything back together, double-check that your buttons are facing the right direction. Those rubber backings need to snugly fit into their designated channels in the assembly, so make sure they’re in their proper place.
– Gently grab the volume rocker and power buttons with your tweezers and carefully lift them out of the display assembly. No rush, take your time and keep everything neat!

Step 17
– Unscrew the three 2.5 mm Phillips #000 screws holding the motherboard in place on the display assembly.
Step 18
Hold up, don’t try to remove the motherboard just yet! It’s still connected to the display assembly by the display data cable, so let’s take a deep breath and tackle that connection first.
The rear camera might be stuck to the display assembly, so when you lift it, try prying it up along with the motherboard. They’re a team—let them rise together!
– Carefully lift the top end of the motherboard to reveal the display data cable hiding underneath.
Step 19
– Gently pry the display data cable off the back of the motherboard using the tip of your trusty spudger. Keep it chill and steady!
