How to Remove BIOS Password from Acer Aspire 7 A717-72G
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 6 Steps
Forgetting your password can be a real pain. While resetting or removing passwords for your social media accounts or laptop/computer is usually a breeze, BIOS passwords are a different story. Sometimes the only solution is to replace the motherboard, which can be pricey. This guide is for those who’ve set up their BIOS password in the BIOS menu and can’t log into the OS. If you need more help, there’s a detailed article on removing BIOS passwords that might come in handy. This guide focuses on Acer laptops because the process is quite straightforward for them, but it should be helpful for users of other brands too. What’s the Basic Concept All laptop manufacturers provide BIOS firmware for their users, including updates. For Acer, you can find it on their official website. You’ll need your laptop model number or the SNID (Serial Number Identification Number). Installing the BIOS firmware updates the BIOS to improve performance. You can also edit its content to remove the existing password. Here are the requirements to follow this guide: • You should be able to log into Windows OS. • You should have internet access to download the firmware. People often face issues extracting or installing the firmware. Below, I’ve shown solutions to each problem so that you can remove the BIOS password with ease.
Step 1
– Fire up your laptop.
– Go ahead and log into WindowsOS.
Step 2
– First things first, log in and fire up your web browser. Head over to the Acer driver download page: https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/drive…
– When you get there, the site will ask for your laptop’s SNID number. You can find this little gem on the bottom of your Acer laptop, right below the lower barcode.
– After you’ve entered the SNID, you’ll be all set to download the BIOS firmware. Easy peasy!
Step 3
If you see an error message saying: “7-Zip Extractor can’t seem to handle the entire .exe file,” go ahead and run the “firmware.exe” file.
Hit those ‘CTRL’ and ‘S’ keys together to keep your progress safe and sound!
– First things first, grab that BIOS firmware you’ve downloaded and let’s get rolling with the ‘7-Zip Extractor’! It’s time to make things happen.
– To kick off the installation of the ‘7-Zip Extractor’, simply right-click on the BIOS firmware. Hover over ‘7-Zip’ in the dropdown menu, and voilà! A new dropdown will pop up. Just click on ‘Extract files’ and you’re on your way!
Step 4
– Press the ‘Windows’ key and the ‘R’ key at the same time. This will open up a little text box—enter ‘%temp%’ there.
– Now, hunt down the folder where ‘firmware.exe’ has been temporarily unpacked. Once you find it, right-click on all the files and copy them over.
Step 5
– Kick things off by opening the file called ‘platform.ini’.
– Once you’re in, a fresh page will pop up. Look over to the left side and spot ‘Password=0’. Give it a little makeover by changing it to ‘Password=1’.
– Don’t forget to save your hard work! Just press ‘CTRL’ and ‘S’ at the same time to lock in those changes.
Step 6
– Hopefully, you have successfully deleted your BIOS password. If you were not successful, please see the guide in the introduction for further details, or seek help from Acer customer service.
