Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 23 Steps
Hey there! Just a quick heads-up: tackling repairs can get a bit tricky, so make sure you’re in a comfy spot and have all your tools ready. If you find yourself in a pickle, don’t hesitate to schedule a repair. You’ve got this!
Ready to give your iPad 3G a little TLC? This guide is here to help you swap out that logic board like a pro. Let’s dive in and get your device back in action! If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 1
Put on those safety glasses to keep your peepers safe, and watch out for that delicate LCD screen—it’s more fragile than it looks!
– If your display glass is looking a bit worse for wear, let’s keep it from shattering further and protect your hands during the repair. A little packing tape goes a long way!
– Grab some clear packing tape and lay down overlapping strips over your iPad’s display until it’s completely covered. You’re doing great!
– Now, try to stick to the guide as best as you can. Just a heads up: once the glass starts cracking, it might want to keep doing its thing while you work. You may need to use a metal prying tool to carefully scoop out the broken bits.
Step 2
The iPad in the pictures might have a slightly different look than yours, but don’t worry—the steps are just the same!
– Slide a metal spudger into the gap between the right edge of the display assembly and the rear panel assembly—time to get in there!
– Gently twist the spudger away from you to pop those tabs loose along the top edge of the display. You’re doing great!

Step 3
– Slide a second metal spudger in between the top edge of the display assembly and the rear panel assembly. This will help keep those pesky tabs from bouncing back into place.
– Gently pry the display assembly away from the rear panel. You’re doing great!

Step 4
Be super careful as you get close to the top edge of the iPad! The digitizer ribbon cable is just chilling near the edge of the rear panel and is a bit delicate, so it could easily get hurt.

Step 5
Be careful not to lift the display assembly too high from the iPad! There’s a delicate antenna cable hanging on by a thread, and we don’t want to stretch it too much.
– Gently lift the display assembly away from the rear panel assembly by its bottom edge. Keep it steady and make sure you’re ready for the next step!
Step 6
– Gently use the flat end of a spudger to lift the antenna connector nearest to the bottom of the iPad off its socket on the communications board. You’ve got this!
Step 7
– Alright, folks! Get ready to disconnect those three cables connecting the display assembly to the logic board. These cables are essential for the following components:
Step 8
Just a friendly reminder: flip up the retaining flap, not the socket itself. You’re doing great!
– Grab your trusty iPod opening tool and gently nudge those little retaining flaps up, freeing the digitizer ribbon cables from their cozy sockets on the logic board.
– Now, with a steady hand, pull the digitizer ribbon cables straight out of their snug homes.
Step 9
– Grab your trusty iPod opening tool and gently nudge the ambient light sensor connector upwards to pop it out of its socket. Easy peasy!
Step 10
Gently slide the connector out, keeping it parallel to the face of the logic board. Easy does it!
– Time to disconnect that display data cable! Gently flip up the metal retainer using the black plastic pull tab. You’re doing great!
– Now, give the cable connector a little tug and pull it away from its socket. Easy peasy!
Step 11
– Gently detach the display assembly from the rear panel assembly. You’ve got this!
Step 12
– Grab the edge of your trusty iPod opening tool and gently lift that stubborn antenna connector off the communications board. You’ve got this!
Step 13
– Guide that control button cable along the top edge of the communications board like a pro!

Step 15
If needed, gently lift the right edge of the communications board to peel it away from the adhesive pad that’s sticking it to the rear case.
– Gently wiggle the communications board and lift it out of its cozy spot on the logic board.
Step 16
Remember to gently lift the retaining flap instead of the socket itself. You’ve got this!
– Gently lift the rubber EMI shield that’s cozying up to the GPS antenna socket.
– Grab the edge of an iPod opening tool and flip up that GPS ribbon cable retaining flap, which is keeping the GPS cable snug in its socket on the logic board.
Step 17
– Gently wiggle the GPS antenna ribbon cable out of its cozy little socket.
Step 18
Make sure to gently lift the retaining flap and not the socket itself. You’ve got this!
Gently guide the cable to the left side of your iPad, like you’re helping a friend find their way.
– Grab your trusty iPod opening tool and gently nudge the retaining flap on the headphone jack/microphone socket to pop it open.
– Once that’s done, give the headphone jack/microphone ribbon cable a gentle tug and pull it out of its cozy socket.
Step 19
You might find this connector wrapped up in some sneaky black tape. Grab your trusty tweezers and gently peel it away before you start prying.
