Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 15 Steps
This is meant for use with your current front panel assemblies only!
Follow this guide to swap out those adhesive strips and give your iPad 4 a fresh seal after a repair. This is meant for existing front panel assemblies only, so let’s get to work!
Step 1
– Unscrew the two 2.1 mm Phillips #00 screws that are holding the home button control board to its mounting bracket. You’ve got this!
Step 2
– Slide the flat edge of a plastic opening tool right into the space between the home button control board’s right side and the home button mounting bracket. Go on, give it a little wiggle!
– Gently press the plastic opening tool downwards to pop loose the adhesive that’s holding the home button control board snug against the mounting bracket. You’re doing great!
– Now, repeat that same motion on the left side of the home button control board to free up the adhesive there too. You’re almost there!
Step 3
– Gently lift the home button control board off its cozy little spot on the home button mounting bracket and set it aside.
Step 5
Ensure the home button control board is perfectly aligned with the bottom of the home button mounting bracket.
– Carefully set the home button control board right on top of the home button mounting bracket.
Step 6
– Pop those two 2.1 mm Phillips #00 screws back into the home button control board to snug it up against the home button mounting bracket. You’re doing great!
Step 7
– Get ready to add the last bits of adhesive to your front panel! Let’s make it stick like it means it.
– Hold off on peeling the clear backing from those strips for now. Patience is key!
– Slide that bridge-shaped adhesive strip right between the top edge of the inner frame and the camera mounting bracket. It’s like fitting a puzzle piece!
– Gently smooth the strip down from the center outward, and keep an eye out for any sneaky air bubbles trying to crash the party. We want a smooth finish!
Step 8
– Stick that nifty C-shaped adhesive strip right on the right side of the front panel, and watch the magic happen!
Step 9
It’s a good idea to gently move the home button ribbon cable to the side while you get that next adhesive strip in place. You got this!
– Stick that straight, medium-length adhesive strip right on the bottom right corner of the front panel, just under the home button ribbon cable. You’ve got this!
Step 10
– Stick that snazzy tabbed rectangular adhesive strip right on the bottom right corner of the front panel. You’ve got this!
Step 11
– Stick the long L-shaped adhesive strip right on the bottom left corner of the front panel. You’ve got this!
Step 12
– Stick that short, rectangular adhesive strip right on the top left corner of the front panel. You’ve got this!
Step 13
– Stick that last short L-shaped adhesive strip right in the top left corner of the front panel. You’ve got this!
Step 14
Hold off on peeling the clear backing off those strips for now!
– Grab your trusty tweezers and gently lift the clear backing off the adhesive strip located right under the home button ribbon cable. Easy peasy!
– Now, carefully place the home button ribbon cable onto the adhesive strip, smoothing it out from the center towards the edges. Just a heads up—make sure to keep any pesky air bubbles from sneaking in between the strip and the front panel.
Tools Used
Step 15
Gently lower the front panel onto your iPad, making sure it fits snugly within the plastic bezel. Remember to keep it clean—no dirt or fingerprints allowed between the glass and LCD!
For a perfect seal, flip the iPad face down on a cozy padded envelope or cloth, then stack a couple of books on top to give that screen a little extra love. Let it chill like this for a few hours before you dive back in!
– Grab a dry microfiber cloth and give that LCD and the inside of the front panel glass a nice clean swipe. If you’re feeling fancy, you can use some canned air or an air compressor to blow away any pesky dust bunnies.
– Take a pair of tweezers and gently peel the clear backing off each adhesive strip. You’ve got this!
