Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 32 Steps
Hey there, repair champion! Just a heads up: make sure to handle your device with care and keep those tiny screws in a safe spot. If you need a helping hand, don’t hesitate to schedule a repair. You’ve got this!
Dive into this guide to swap out that LCD like a pro! If you run into any bumps along the way, just remember, you can always schedule a repair for a helping hand.
Step 1
It’s a great idea to give your microwave a little scrub before you dive in. Any leftover gunk on the bottom might just hitch a ride on the iOpener, and nobody wants that!
– Pop that iOpener right in the center of your microwave and let it warm up!
Tools Used
Step 2
Keep an eye on that iOpener! We don’t want it getting too hot—overheating could lead to a dramatic burst. Aim for a cozy temperature below 100˚C (212˚F).
If your iOpener looks like it’s been hitting the gym and appears swollen, give it a break—no touching!
If the middle of your iOpener is still too toasty to handle, hang tight and let it cool a bit before you give it another heat session. A well-heated iOpener should stay warm for around 10 minutes—just enough time to grab a snack!
– Give your iOpener a warm-up in the microwave for thirty seconds. It’s like a little spa treatment for your repair buddy!
– As you work through the repair, keep that iOpener nice and toasty by reheating it in the microwave for another thirty seconds whenever it starts to cool off. Your gadget will appreciate the extra warmth!

Step 3
Caution: The iOpener is going to be quite toasty, so handle it with care! An oven mitt might be your best buddy here.
– Carefully take the iOpener out of the microwave, grabbing it by one of the flat ends to keep those fingers safe from the toasty middle.

Step 4
If you don’t have a microwave handy, no worries! Just pop your iOpener into a pot of boiling water and let the heat do its magic.
– Grab a pot or pan and fill it up with enough water to give your iOpener a nice swim.
– Turn up the heat and bring that water to a rolling boil, then switch off the heat.
– Carefully drop your iOpener into the hot water for about 2-3 minutes, making sure it’s fully submerged and enjoying the warmth.
– Use some tongs to safely lift the warm iOpener out of the water – no burnt fingers here!
– Give your iOpener a good towel dry to get rid of any excess water.
– Voila! Your iOpener is all set for action! If it needs a little more warmth, just repeat the boiling process for another 2-3 minutes.

Step 5
Don your safety glasses to keep those peepers protected, and watch out for that LCD screen—it’s more delicate than it looks!
– Got a cracked display glass? No worries! Let’s keep that breakage under control and avoid any mishaps while you tackle your repair by sticking some tape on it.
– Grab some clear packing tape and lay overlapping strips over the iPad’s display until the whole face is nicely covered. You’re doing great!
– Now, just follow along with the rest of the guide as best as you can. Keep in mind that once the glass starts to break, it might keep cracking a bit as you work. You might want to use a metal prying tool to help scoop out those pesky glass pieces.
Step 6
Just a heads up, you might be dealing with some sharp glass bits during this process, so it’s a smart move to rock those safety glasses for a little extra protection from any unexpected flying pieces.
– Place the iOpener flat along the right edge of your iPad, making sure it’s nice and snug against the surface for optimal contact.
– Give the bag a little time to work its magic on the iPad—about 90 seconds should do the trick—before you dive in and open up the front panel.

Step 7
Getting that wedged tip of the opening tool between the glass and plastic might take a bit of elbow grease! So, take your time and stay cool. Gently wiggle the plastic opening tool back and forth as needed, and you’ll get there in no time!
– Hey there! Spot that little gap in the iPad’s adhesive ring at the upper right corner? It’s about 2.0 inches (~5 cm) from the top. Let’s take advantage of this tiny flaw and get started!
– Now, line up your tool with the mute button. Gently insert the tip of a plastic opening tool into that gap between the front glass and the plastic bezel. Just nudge the very tip in there, enough to create a wider opening. You’ve got this!
Step 9
– With the tip of your trusty plastic opening tool snugly placed between the front glass and the plastic bezel, gently slide a plastic opening pick into that little gap right next to the tool. You’ve got this!
Step 10
– Gently take the plastic opening tool out of the iPad and slide that opening pick further under the front glass, aiming for about half an inch deep. You’ve got this!
Step 12
This adhesive means business! You might need to put some muscle into it, so take your time and stay steady.
If you can spot the tip of the opening pick peeking out from under the front glass, gently pull it out a bit. Don’t worry, using the pick this deep won’t cause any harm, but it might leave some adhesive residue on the LCD. Keep it cool and carry on!
– While the iOpener works its magic on the bottom edge, start peeling away that sticky adhesive from the right edge of your iPad.
– Gently slide the opening pick down the iPad’s edge, letting it release the adhesive as you go. Easy peasy!

Step 13
As you peel away the adhesive, you might want to slide that warm iOpener back onto the right edge of your iPad. How long it’s been cooling off while you’ve been busy can make a difference, so keep an eye on it!
– If your opening pick is feeling a bit clingy and gets stuck in the adhesive, just give it a little ‘roll’ along the edge of the iPad to help it break free. Keep at it, and you’ll be releasing that adhesive like a pro!

Step 14
– Before you pop out that first opening pick from the bottom corner of your iPad, slide a second pick under the right edge of the front glass. This little buddy will help keep the adhesive from getting all clingy again.
– Give your iOpener a quick reheat and then move it up to the top edge of the iPad. You’re doing great!

Step 15
Hey there! Just a heads-up: the Wi-Fi antenna is snugly attached to the bottom right edge of the rear case of your iPad with screws and a cable. Make sure to take it easy while handling it—being a bit too rough could lead to some serious damage to the Wi-Fi antenna. Stay cool and careful!
– Alright, folks, let’s take a deep breath and proceed with caution. We’re about to get a bit hands-on!
– It’s time to gently peel away the adhesive that’s holding the antenna to the front panel. Just remember, we need to be super careful not to mess with those delicate bits connecting the antenna to the bottom of your iPad. Take your time and follow these steps closely!
Step 16
Hey there! Just a friendly reminder: steer clear of sliding the pick past the bottom right corner. You wouldn’t want to accidentally give that Wi-Fi antenna a little too much love and risk damaging it!
– Gently glide the opening pick around the bottom right corner of the iPad to loosen up that pesky adhesive. You’ve got this!
Step 17
As you glide the opening pick along the bottom right edge of the front panel, keep an eye out! The Wi-Fi antenna is lurking close to the corner and can easily get a little too friendly if the adhesive gets released in the wrong way. Take it slow and steady!
Keep that pick cozy under the front glass! Just wiggle it out a smidge so that about 1/8″ (3 mm) of the tip is still tucked away underneath. You’re doing great!
– Gently slide the opening pick along the bottom edge of your iPad, freeing up that sticky adhesive over the Wi-Fi antenna. You’ve got this!
Step 18
– Alright, once you’ve glided past the Wi-Fi antenna (that’s about 3″ or 75 mm from the right edge, right next to the home button), pop that opening pick back in all the way!
– Now, give that pick a little slide to the right, and watch as the adhesive holding the Wi-Fi antenna to the front glass lets go!
Step 19
Keep the iOpener’s heat sessions to just one minute at a time, and give it a cool-down break of at least two minutes before giving it another go!
– Keep sliding that adhesive right along the bottom of your iPad! Give that opening pick a little tug to navigate around the home button. Once you’re past the button, pop it back in to a cozy depth of about 1/2 inch (10 mm). You’re doing great!
Tools Used
Step 20
– Keep peeling away that stubborn adhesive along the bottom edge of your iPad like a pro!
– Once you’re in, prop that opening pick under the front glass near the home button to keep things nice and open.
Step 22
If your adhesive is feeling a bit chilly, just pop that iOpener back along the top edge and keep on working. And hey, if your iOpener has lost its heat, give it a quick reheat!
– Gently slide the opening pick along the top edge of your iPad, giving it a little tug to navigate around the front-facing camera bracket.
– The adhesive here is pretty strong, so you might need to put in a bit of muscle. Take your time and be cautious to avoid any slips that could hurt you or your iPad.
– If the opening pick seems to be stuck in the adhesive, try to ‘roll’ the pick just like we showed you in step 9.
Tools Used
Step 23
If the adhesive is feeling cozy and warm, go ahead and take that iOpener off the iPad for easier access. But if it’s still clinging on like a puppy, just warm up the iOpener again and place it on the left edge while you work your magic.
– Keep peeling away the adhesive from the top edge of the iPad, then gently maneuver the opening pick around the top left corner.

Step 24
The digitizer cable is hanging out about 2 inches (50 mm) from the bottom of your iPad. When you’re sliding that pick, just stop when you reach around 2.25 inches (60 mm) from the bottom. You’ve got this!
– Gently slide the opening pick along the left edge of your iPad, letting the adhesive release as you go along. It’s pretty thin here thanks to the digitizer running the length of that side. Just be sure to keep the pick at a shallow angle (no more than 1/2 inch or 10 mm) to avoid any mishaps with the digitizer. You got this!
Step 25
Be super careful! The bottom of that digitizer cable is hanging out just about an inch (25 mm) from the iPad’s bottom. Take your time and keep your hands steady to avoid cutting this cable. You’ve got this!
– With the trusty opening pick still tucked under the bottom edge of your iPad, gently free the adhesive along the bottom left corner. You’re doing great!
Step 26
– Grab one of those handy opening picks and gently lift up the bottom right corner of the iPad. Once it’s popped up, give it a little hug with your fingers to hold it in place!
Step 27
Watch out for any stubborn adhesive still hanging on! Use an opening pick to gently slice through any sticky spots that might be keeping the front panel in place. You’ve got this!
– Grab your iPad by the top and bottom right corners, and give that front glass a gentle twist away from the device. It’s like a dance move, but for your tech!
– When you’re putting everything back together, don’t forget to whip out a microfiber cloth and some compressed air. Give that LCD a little TLC by cleaning off any dust or fingerprints before you seal the deal with the glass.
Step 28
The bottom left screw is hiding behind the home button ribbon cable connector. Gently nudge that cable aside to free the bottom left screw. You’ve got this!
– Let’s kick things off by taking out those four tiny 2 mm Phillips #00 screws that are holding the LCD snugly to the aluminum frame. You’ve got this!
Step 29
Handle the LCD with care! That ribbon cable is a bit delicate and could snap if you bend it too much.
– Grab a plastic opening tool or a spudger and gently lift the right edge of the LCD out of the iPad. You’ve got this!
– Now, give that LCD a little twist along its left edge and let it rest on the front glass panel like it’s taking a well-deserved break.
Tools Used
Step 30
– With the trusty tip of your spudger in hand, gently lift the tape that’s keeping the LCD ribbon cable connector under wraps. You’ve got this!

Step 31
– Gently lift the retaining flap on the LCD ribbon cable ZIF connector.
– Using your fingers or a trusty pair of tweezers, carefully pull the LCD ribbon cable out of its cozy socket on the logic board.
– If your iPad decides to play hard to get and the LCD screen remains dark after reconnecting the ZIF connector, just give it a little nudge by holding down the power button and home button for at least ten seconds until that lovely Apple logo makes an appearance. You’ve got this!
Step 32
– Carefully lift the LCD away from the front panel without touching its surface. You’ve got this!
