Steps: 45 Steps
Hey there, tech whiz! Before diving into this repair adventure, make sure you’ve got all the right tools and a cozy workspace. A little prep goes a long way! And remember, if you hit a snag, don’t hesitate to schedule a repair with the pros at Salvation Repair. You’ve got this!
Hey there! You’re about to embark on a journey to swap out that plain front panel (yes, including the glass and digitizer!). If you’ve got a shiny new Front Panel Assembly replacement part in hand, hold your horses! Before you pop off the home button from your old panel, just rewind a bit and follow the steps in reverse to seamlessly install your new front panel assembly. And remember, if you ever feel like you could use a hand, you can always schedule a repair.
Step 1
Before diving in, give your microwave a quick clean-up! Those pesky crumbs and spills can cling to the iOpener, and nobody wants that. A little tidying goes a long way!
– Pop that iOpener right in the center of your microwave and let it warm up!
Tools Used
Step 2
Keep an eye on that iOpener while you work! We don’t want it getting too toasty—overheating could lead to a surprise burst. Aim to keep it below 100˚C (212˚F).
If the iOpener looks like it’s been hitting the gym and is swollen, it’s best to steer clear.
If the middle of the iOpener is still too hot to handle, just hang tight and let it cool down a bit before giving it another heat up. A well-heated iOpener should stay cozy for about 10 minutes.
– Give your iOpener a warm-up in the microwave for thirty seconds. It’s like a little spa treatment for your repair buddy!
– As you work through the repair, keep an eye on your iOpener. When it starts to cool down, pop it back in the microwave for another thirty seconds. Just keep that heat coming!
Tools Used
Step 3
Caution! The iOpener is going to be hot stuff, so handle it with care. If it feels a bit too toasty for your hands, grab an oven mitt to stay safe and stylish!
– Carefully take the iOpener out of the microwave, gripping it by one of the flat ends to steer clear of the hot middle section.

Step 4
If you’re not rocking a microwave, no worries! Just pop that iOpener into some boiling water to get it heated up.
– Grab a pot or pan and fill it with enough water to give your iOpener a nice, warm bath.
– Get that water boiling and then go ahead and turn off the heat. Safety first!
– Now, gently place your iOpener into the hot water for about 2-3 minutes. Make sure it’s cozy and fully submerged.
– Using tongs, carefully lift the warm iOpener out of the water. Watch out for that steam!
– Give the iOpener a good towel dry. We want it to be nice and snug.
– Voila! Your iOpener is all set to go! If it needs a little more heat, just repeat the steps: heat the water, turn off the heat, and let your iOpener soak for another 2-3 minutes.

Step 5
Don those stylish safety glasses to keep your peepers safe, and remember to treat that LCD screen with the utmost care—it’s more delicate than it looks!
– Got a cracked display? No worries! Let’s keep those shards in check and avoid any mishaps while you work your magic. Grab some tape and let’s get started!
– Layer on some clear packing tape over the iPad’s display like you’re giving it a cozy blanket. Make sure to cover the entire face so you’re all set.
– Now, follow along with the guide as best as you can. Just a heads-up: once that glass starts to break, it might decide to go on a cracking spree. You might need to bring in a metal prying tool to help scoop out the pieces.
Step 6
Just a friendly reminder: while you’re getting up close and personal with that broken glass, we highly recommend rocking some safety glasses to keep those pesky shards at bay. Safety first, style second!
– Place the iOpener flat against the right edge of your iPad, making sure to smooth it out for a snug fit. We want that warm contact to work its magic!
– Give the bag a little time to work—let it chill on the iPad for about 90 seconds before you dive into opening up the front panel.

Step 7
Getting that wedged tip of the opening tool between the glass and plastic might take a bit of elbow grease. Just take your time and be gentle—wiggle the plastic tool back and forth as needed to make it work. You’ve got this!
– Hey there! Check out the tiny gap in the adhesive ring at the upper right corner of your iPad, about 2.0 inches (~5 cm) from the top. We’re going to take advantage of this little opening.
– Now, line up your tool with the mute button. Gently slide the tip of a plastic opening tool into that gap between the front glass and the plastic bezel. Just insert the very tip—enough to give that crack a little nudge.
Step 9
– With the plastic opening tool snugly positioned between the front glass and the plastic bezel, gently slide a plastic opening pick into that little gap right next to the tool. You’re doing great—keep it steady!
Step 10
– Gently take out the plastic opening tool from your iPad, and slide the opening pick a little deeper under the front glass, aiming for about 0.5 inches. You’ve got this!
Step 12
The adhesive is super strong, so you might need to channel your inner superhero to get it off. Just take your time and be gentle!
If you spot the tip of that trusty opening pick peeking out from under the front glass, give it a gentle tug to pull it out just a smidge. While it’s totally safe to use the pick this deep, just a heads up that it might leave some adhesive residue on the LCD. No biggie, though!
– While the iOpener is warming up the bottom edge, let’s get to work on the right side of the iPad and start peeling away that pesky adhesive.
– Gently slide the opening pick down the edge of the iPad, making sure to free the adhesive as you glide along.

Step 13
As you peel away the adhesive, you might need to slide that cozy heated iOpener back onto the right edge of your iPad. This little adjustment depends on how long your iPad has been chilling while you were busy fixing things up.
– If your opening pick gets a bit too cozy with the adhesive, just give it a little roll along the side of the iPad to help loosen things up. You’re doing great!
Tools Used
Step 14
– Before you pop out that first opening pick from the bottom corner of your iPad, slide a second pick under the right edge of the front glass. This little buddy will help keep the adhesive from sticking again!
– Give your iOpener a little reheat, and then place it at the top edge of your iPad. Let’s keep that warmth flowing!

Step 15
The Wi-Fi antenna is snugly secured to the bottom right edge of the rear case of your iPad with screws and a cable. Since the Wi-Fi antenna is positioned in a unique way, it’s super important to be extra careful during this process. One wrong move could lead to some serious damage to the antenna, and we don’t want that!
– Alright, folks, time to tread carefully here! We’re about to tackle the adhesive that’s keeping the antenna glued to the front panel. Just remember, the goal is to set it free without causing any harm to those delicate parts connecting the antenna to the iPad’s bottom. So, let’s take it step by step and keep it smooth!
Step 16
Hey there! Just a friendly reminder: keep that pick from sliding past the bottom right corner. It could accidentally give your Wi-Fi antenna a little too much love, and we don’t want that!
– Gently glide that opening pick around the bottom right corner of your iPad to free up the adhesive. You’re doing great!
Step 17
Carefully slide the opening pick along the bottom right edge of the front panel. Just a heads up, the Wi-Fi antenna is lurking near the corner and can get cut if the adhesive is released the wrong way. Take your time and be gentle!
Just give the pick a little tug! Don’t pull it all the way out from under the front glass—leave about 1/8″ (3 mm) of the tip cozy under there. You’ve got this!
– Time to get this repair started! Slide the tip of the trusty opening pick along the bottom edge of your iPad, and gently release the adhesive that’s holding things together over the Wi-Fi antenna. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair
Step 18
– After you’ve gracefully danced past the Wi-Fi antenna (that’s about 3″ (75 mm) from the right edge, or just beside the home button), slide that opening pick back in all the way!
– Now, gently glide the pick to the right to free the adhesive holding the Wi-Fi antenna to the front glass. You’ve got this!
Step 19
Keep it cool! Don’t heat the iOpener for more than a minute at a time, and make sure to give it a breather for at least two minutes before you heat it up again. Your gadgets will thank you!
– Keep gently peeling away the adhesive at the bottom of the iPad, making sure to pull the opening pick out far enough to navigate around the home button. Once you’ve successfully maneuvered past the home button, pop that pick back in to a depth of about 1/2 inch (10 mm).
Tools Used
Step 20
– Keep sliding that adhesive away along the bottom edge of the iPad like a pro!
– Once you’re in, tuck the opening pick snugly under the front glass near the home button and let it do its thing.
Step 22
If the adhesive has gotten a bit too chill, just swap in a fresh iOpener at the top edge and keep on trucking. If your iOpener is feeling a little too cool, simply give it a quick reheat and get back to work!
– Gently glide the opening pick along the top edge of your iPad, giving it a little tug to navigate around the front-facing camera bracket.
– Keep in mind, the adhesive in this area is quite the stronghold, so you might need to apply a bit of muscle. Take your time, and be cautious to avoid any slips that could lead to a mishap with your iPad.
– If the opening pick feels like it’s stuck in the adhesive, just give it a little ‘roll’ as demonstrated in step 9.
Tools Used
Step 23
If the adhesive is feeling cozy and warm, go ahead and take the iOpener off the iPad to make your life easier. But if it’s still pretty clingy, give that iOpener another heat-up and rest it on the left edge while you tackle the rest of the repair.
– Keep peeling back that adhesive along the top edge of your iPad, and gently slide the opening pick around the top left corner like a pro.
Tools Used
Step 24
The digitizer cable is hanging out about 2 inches (50 mm) from the bottom of the iPad. When you reach around 2.25 inches (60 mm) from the bottom, it’s time to hit the brakes on that pick and stop sliding. You’re doing great!
– Gently glide that opening pick down the left edge of your iPad, freeing the adhesive as you go along. It’s pretty thin here thanks to the digitizer stretching across the entire left side. Just keep the pick at a shallow depth (no more than 1/2 inch or 10 mm) to avoid any mishaps with the digitizer. You’re doing great!
Step 25
Be super careful! The bottom of the digitizer cable is just about an inch (25 mm) from the iPad’s edge. Take your time and handle it gently to avoid cutting this cable.
– With the opening pick still tucked under the bottom edge of your iPad, gently peel back the adhesive in the bottom left corner. You’ve got this!
Step 26
Some of the sticky stuff around the edges of your iPad might have decided to reattach itself. If that’s the case, gently slide a pick under the edge where the front glass is still hanging on and give that adhesive a little snip to free it up.
– Grab one of those handy opening picks and gently lift the bottom right corner of your iPad. Once you’ve pried it up, feel free to give it a little pinch with your fingers to keep it open. You’re doing great!
Step 27
Watch out for any sticky stuff still hanging on! Grab your trusty opening pick and gently slice through any adhesive that’s keeping the front panel in place.
– Grab your iPad by the top and bottom right corners, and gently twist the front glass away from the device like you’re unveiling a secret!
– When it’s time to put everything back together, don’t forget to use a microfiber cloth and some compressed air to give that LCD a good clean-up, removing any dust or fingerprints before you seal it with the glass again.
Step 28
– Carefully take out those four 2 mm Phillips #00 screws that are holding the LCD snugly to the aluminum frame. You’ve got this!
Step 29
– Grab your trusty plastic opening tool or spudger and gently lift the right edge of the LCD away from the iPad.
– Once it’s free, swing the LCD over to the left and rest it on top of the front panel like it’s taking a little break.
Tools Used
Step 30
– With the spudger’s tip, gently lift the tape that’s holding down the LCD ribbon cable connector. You’re doing great!
Tools Used
Step 31
– Time to lift the retaining flap on the LCD ribbon cable ZIF connector like a pro!
– Now, using your fingers or a trusty pair of tweezers, gently pull the LCD ribbon cable out of its cozy socket on the logic board.
– If the LCD screen is playing hard to get and won’t light up after connecting the ZIF connector, give the iPad a little wake-up call by holding down the power button and home button for about ten seconds until the Apple logo makes its grand entrance.
Step 32
– Gently lift the LCD away from the front panel without getting your fingers on the screen. You’ve got this!
Step 33
– With the spudger’s tip, gently lift the tape holding the touchscreen ribbon cable to the logic board. You’re doing great!
Tools Used
Step 34
– Gently lift the retaining flap on both of the touchscreen ribbon cable ZIF connectors. You’ve got this!
Step 35
– Grab that trusty spudger and use its flat end to gently lift the adhesive holding down the digitizer ribbon cable. You’re almost there!
– Now, with a steady hand, pull the digitizer ribbon cable straight out from its cozy sockets on the logic board. You’ve got this!
Tools Used
Step 36
– Gently lift the touchscreen ribbon cable and grab your trusty spudger. Use the flat end to carefully free the adhesive that’s holding the cable snug against the rear aluminum case. You’re doing great!
Tools Used
Step 37
– With a gentle touch, wiggle those fingers and pull the touchscreen ribbon cable out from its cozy spot in the aluminum frame.
– Now, it’s time to say goodbye to the front panel of your iPad. Carefully remove it, and let’s keep moving forward!
Step 38
The home button assembly is glued to the front panel, so it’s a bit of a stickler! Using an iOpener to warm things up and loosen that adhesive is a smart move. You’ve got this!
– Pop that iOpener into the microwave and give it a quick thirty-second zap on high power. It’s like a warm hug for your device!
– Now, place the warm iOpener right over the home button on the front edge of your display. It’s time to get things cooking!
Tools Used
Step 39
– Gently slide the plastic opening tool under the right side of the home button assembly and give it a little nudge upwards to break free the adhesive on that side. You’ve got this!
Step 40
– With a little finesse, gently peel back the adhesive on the left side of the home button.
– Carefully lift the home button mount away from the front panel.
Step 41
– Gently slide the edge of your trusty plastic opening tool under the home button mounting bracket.
– Carefully glide the plastic opening tool along the retaining spring bracket to release that pesky adhesive.
– Now, with a little finesse, remove the home button along with its mounting bracket from the front panel.
Step 42
The camera bracket is stuck to the front panel with some adhesive love. To make things easier, we highly recommend using an iOpener to gently loosen that sticky situation.
– Kick things off by checking out the iOpener heating instructions in the iOpener heating section at the start of this guide. You’ve got this!
– Now, gently position the iOpener right over the front-facing camera at the top edge of your display. It’s like giving your device a warm hug!
Tools Used
Step 44
– Gently lift and take off the camera bracket from the front panel.
Step 45
When swapping out your panel for a shiny new one, keep an eye out for any protective film that might be clinging to the outside or inside of the frame. Don’t forget to peel that off—it’s like unwrapping a gift!
– The front panel is still in place.
