How to Replace MacBook Pro 13 Unibody Early 2011 Trackpad

Get ready to swap out that pesky broken trackpad! Follow this guide to bring your device back to life and make those clicks smooth again. If you need help, you can always schedule a repair.

Step 1

– Go ahead and unscrew those ten screws with confidence!

Step 2

– Gently use your fingers to pop the lower case away from the MacBook’s body, starting near the vent.

– Carefully lift off the lower case.

Step 3

– Grab the edge of your trusty spudger and gently nudge the battery connector upwards from its cozy spot on the logic board. You’ve got this!

Step 4

– Gently nudge the battery cable away from its cozy spot on the logic board to ensure it doesn’t sneakily reconnect while you’re getting things done.

Step 5

– Unscrew those two little screws like a pro!

Step 6

– Gently lift off the battery warning label from the upper case, right between the battery and the optical drive. You’ve got this!

Step 7

– Grab that handy plastic pull tab and give it a gentle tug to pop the battery out of the upper case. You’ve got this!

– If you’re swapping in a shiny new battery, don’t forget to give it a little calibration love after you install it!

Step 8

– Gently use the flat end of a spudger to lift the trackpad connector up from its cozy spot on the logic board. You’ve got this!

Step 9

– Flip open your MacBook Pro and place it on a table just like you see here. Let’s get started!

Step 10

– With one hand holding the edge of the trackpad nearest to the logic board, go ahead and take out those four 1.2 mm Phillips screws marked in red.

Step 11

– If needed, gently nudge the edge of the trackpad nearest to the keyboard out of its snug spot in the upper case by pushing it away from the brackets holding it in place.

– Carefully guide the trackpad connector and cable down through the little slot crafted into the upper case.

– You might find it handy to use a spudger to help maneuver the trackpad connector past the edge of the logic board.

– Once you’ve successfully pulled the cable all the way through its slot in the upper case, simply pull the trackpad away from the outer edge of the upper case and lift it out of the machine.

– Installing your new trackpad can be a bit tricky, especially when you’re trying to route that cable through the upper case and around the logic board. No worries! Grab the tip of a spudger to help guide the connector past the logic board while your other hand pushes the cable through its designated slot in the upper case. You’ve got this!

Step 13

– Now, let’s pop those four 1.2 mm Phillips screws back into their cozy spots along the inner edge of the trackpad. Nice and snug!

– Take a moment to check that the trackpad is nicely centered on the keyboard side of the upper case. Once everything looks just right, go ahead and tighten those four Phillips screws all the way down. You got this!
