How to Replace MacBook Pro 15 Optical Drive Guide

Time to jazz up your device with a sleek new SuperDrive! Just a heads up, you’ll need a slim drive for this upgrade or replacement. Let’s get this tech party started!
Step 2
– Unscrew the trio of identical Phillips screws holding the memory door in place. Let’s keep those screws safe and sound for reassembly!
Step 3
– Gently lift the memory door just enough to get a good grip on it, then slide it toward yourself and away from the casing like you’re pulling a tablecloth in a magic trick.
Step 4
– Whip out your screwdriver and unscrew the two 2.8 mm Phillips screws chilling in the battery compartment near the latch.

– Time to unscrew the magic! Unscrew these 6 little rascals:

– Unscrew the quartet of 3.2 mm Phillips party-starters on the port side of your tech buddy.
Step 7
– Give your computer a quick dance move by spinning it 90 degrees. Next, tackle the two 3.2 mm Phillips screws chilling at the rear. Unscrew them and show them who’s boss!
Step 8
– Give your computer a cool 90-degree spin and take out those four 3.2 mm Phillips screws from the side. Keep it snazzy!
Step 9
Hold up, don’t rush to pull off the upper case! It’s still connected to the logic board with a ribbon cable. Let’s keep it chill and careful.
– Start by lifting the rear of the case and slide your fingers along the edges to loosen it. Continue working around the case until the sides are free. You might have to gently wiggle the case up and down to disengage the front, as there are some sneaky plastic clips that need to be unhooked.
Step 10
– Unplug the trackpad and keyboard ribbon cables from the logic board, peeling off any tape that gets in your way.
– Take off the upper case like a boss.

– Unhook the zesty orange SuperDrive ribbon cable from the logic board, peeling off any tape if needed. You’ve got this!

– Time to unscrew some stuff! Please remove these 4 screws:

If your shiny new optical drive came with brackets attached, just swing the data cable over to the new unit and you’re golden!
– Unscrew the two shiny silver Phillips screws that are keeping the mounting bracket snug against the left side of the optical drive. It’s like freeing a trapped treasure!
Step 15
– Twist the drive to a groovy angle and unplug the zesty orange ribbon cable from the optical drive. You’re doing great!
Step 16
– Whip out your Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the duo of screws that are keeping the mounting bracket tight to the back of the optical drive. Let’s free that bracket!
Step 17

– Turn the drive to its side and unscrew the single Phillips screw that holds the mounting bracket to the optical drive’s right side.
– If your new optical drive came without mounting brackets, just swap over the three silver brackets and the orange ribbon cable from your old drive.
