How to Replace the Speaker in Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP
Duration: 45 minutes
Steps: 8 Steps
The speaker hangs out smack in the middle of the Game Boy Advance SP’s button panel. It’s not hardwired to the motherboard, so swapping it out is a breeze—no soldering required!
Step 1
– Grab your trusty Phillips #00 screwdriver and loosen up that 4 mm screw holding the battery cover in place. Easy peasy—you’re on a roll!

Step 3
Heads up, friend! Handle that battery like it’s a spicy burrito. If it’s looking puffy or beat-up, it’s a fire hazard, not a fashion statement!
– Gently use your fingers or a plastic opening tool to pop the battery out of the device.
Step 4
– Pop out four 6.5 mm screws from the corners of the back cover with your trusty tri-point Y00 screwdriver.
– Next, take out two 4.6mm screws from the top-center and bottom-center of the device using the same tri-point Y00 screwdriver. You’re nailing it!

Step 5
Heads up: The inner parts are sensitive to static electricity. Handle with care to avoid damaging your device.
– Gently pry off the back cover – like opening a treasure chest!
– Heads up! Keep an eye out for the power switch; it might try to make a run for it when you remove the cover.
Step 6
– Grab your Phillips #00 screwdriver and unscrew the three 4 mm Phillips #00 screws that are keeping the motherboard cozy with the button panel. Easy peasy—just take your time!

Step 7
Take care not to snag the ribbon cable that’s attached to the screen. If you accidentally damage it, you might find yourself staring at a blank screen instead of your favorite games!
– Carefully flip the motherboard up and prop it against the other half of the device. This will give you a clear view of the back of the buttons, just like in the picture. Take a moment to appreciate your handiwork so far – you’re making great progress! If you’re feeling stuck, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Just take a deep breath and remember that you’re one step closer to fixing your device. Now, let’s get back to it – flip that motherboard up and get ready for the next step.
Step 8
Keep the foam circle snugly in the speaker’s slot on the button panel—it helps lock the speaker in place and boosts sound quality like a champ!
– Now it’s time to put your device back together! Just retrace your steps from the beginning and you’ll be good to go.
